Another layoff for Reece James. Taken together he will have missed almost three years through injury since making his first team debut. Can't be easy coming back over and over.

Key FIFA Council meeting, absurdly the first since the World Cup scandal exploded in July, lasted just over three hours. First one to get out of there is UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin. Would have been useful to hear him say something given UEFA’s ongoing battle with Infantino. Another time maybe

This must not NOT be seen as a bribe, electioneering or anything unseemly. Buuut Infantino’s FIFA, under pressure and desperate to secure support for March’s election, has decided to boost the coffers of the 211 FA/voters by increasing funding by $15m for each to $25m irrespective of need. 🍾 🍾

Navi Pillay, the former UN official and South African judge, who quit Infantino's FIFA's governance committee because its officials "violate the norms and standards of good conduct" has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. (Infantino/FIFA and UN still close) www.nytimes.com/live/2026/10...

People worrying about what repercussions of Man City being punished could bring for the league should also consider what damage Man City cheating has already wrought: This cheating has corrupted the league for a minimum of a decade and further success built on top of that.

Aleksander Ceferin, the UEFA president, said he would “lead by example” and not stand more than three terms to set a good example. Now that third term is coming to an end, guess what? Aleksander Ceferin is standing four a fourth term at the same time he has called for better governance at FIFA. 😵‍💫

This BC Partners investment in LIV Golf to me makes no sense even as a tax-shield or whatever it is that is being speculated. That business will never work. The idea that these franchises have any meaningful value moving forward is bonkers and buyers sell to other idiots. I don't want to say Ponzi

⚽️ 👮 How Infantino’s FIFA ignored own rules on player eligibility to allow DRCongo to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. FIFA found that Congo should have been disqualified but kept ineligible player discovery quiet. Ronaldo, Balogun and now Congo. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/06/w...

FIFA Found Congo Player Ineligible, Let Him Play in World Cup (Gift Article)

Officials determined that a goalkeeper from the Democratic Republic of Congo did not have the correct paperwork, documents show. But no action was taken, renewing questions about FIFA’s governance.

So after years of insisting to the point of demanding corrections of anyone saying Manchester City is owned by the UAE and not a private investment of “his highness” sheikh Mansour, City will now insist in its appeal that City is actually owned by the UAE. Riiiggghhht then. 🥸

Some interesting surrogates in the media in this Man City case, some for the club and some for individuals associated with it. Fascinating to see it play out. Good case study for media studies students.

Looking at details in Man City verdict, other cases and leaked emails, it’s astonishing how brazen and straightforward this scheme was without anyone at the PL noticing. It took a computer hack and then leaks to bring it out into open. The oversight clearly couldn’t discover such an obvious scheme.

If, according to the panel, Manchester City cheated and witnesses told mistruths about Abu Dhabi sponsorships why wouldn’t those self same companies and those connected with them also not be in exactly the same situation? They are part of the scheme.

Andy Burnham's comments today expose the situation of selling national football teams to foreign states. He's taking a view, at least in one reading of his comments, that corrupting the national game is not as big an issue as potentially losing foreign investment in Manchester.

Manchester City's auditor BDO who signed off the accounts during the years in which an Independent Panel found the club cheated the Premier League rules on -- what can only be described as -- an industrial scale: "We remain bound by confidentiality so cannot comment on this occasion."

😳 Pep before cheats verdict: “If you lie to me, the day after I am not here. I will be out and I will not be your friend anymore.” Pep after verdict: “I am, always have been, always will, be behind my club, my owner, my chairman, Ferran, the players staff, Enzo and you, our unique supporters.”
