I’ve recently finished a number of commissions and felt it was time to make something for my own enjoyment. #Tyrannosaurus is always a joy. #paleoart #sciart
A few weeks ago CBC reporter Sheena Goodyear reached out to me for comment on the new Spinosaurus paper. I said I couldn’t, because of Epstein connection Nathan Myhrvold’s involvement with it. We got to talking about how paleontology - especially dinosaur research- remains hostile to women. 🧪
Paleontology has an Epstein problem. Women in the field say it's a symptom of a deeper misogyny | CBC Radio
The names of hundreds of scientists have appeared in the Epstein files, including prominent dinosaur researchers. As the paleontology community reckons with the fallout of these revelations, women in ...

Here's a T. Rex bored to death trying to bite their own tail. My partner asked me to animate it in stop motion, after she watched a video about the very important topic of "could T. Rex chew its own tail like a dog". The puppet is still a work in progress 🦖
This is why scientists will cushion statements about animal behavior with “typically” or “usually.” All it takes is one individual to shake things up.

I don’t want to generate or receive an email, document, manuscript, PowerPoint deck, post it note, grocery list, novel, film, or hit list that has been generated with AI.
I write because I love writing. I love writing even when I'm struggling with a writing problem that is killing me. Finding a way through that problem is both intensely rewarding and also helps me become a better writer. There is no reason for me to ever outsource that.
I need to finish all episodes of the new Walking with Dinosaurs, but so far it’s got quite a range of highs and lows. And also…chat, is there perhaps a faint echo of a paintpaddock piece in contemporary paleomedia?
Introducing Mosura fentoni, a new radiodont from the #BurgessShale. Paper here: doi.org/10.1098/rsos.2… This #fossil species has 3 eyes, spiny claws, wing-shaped swimming flaps, and a unique abdomen-like body region.

Many of my colleagues view the story and fate of #Keiko the orca as a failure. I think this underplays the effort and hard work of many smart, passionate people. We learned a lot about cetacean rehabilitation. Keiko got the dignity of passing away in his home waters, far from his tiny tank.
I mean, seriously. Was ever an animal more aptly named? It looks like a guardian forest spirit.
I want Miragaia to be valid based on the beauty of the name alone. 🥲
Henry the T. rex returns with a new look and coffee cup! 🦖
NEW EPISODE! 🦕 Ellen is joined by paleoartist and marine biologist @thepaintpaddock.bsky.social for a review of the ancient giants that towered over the late Jurassic world: Brachiosaurus! Check it out wherever you get podcasts!
I know we’re tired of the politics talk, but I just need to rant. International friends, stop accusing every American you meet as being complicit in Trump’s bullshit. This happened to me in Australia & I had no real outlet for it at the time, and now I’m seeing it happen increasingly to others.
JUST OUT!!! Happy to announce my first publication, coauthored with @davehone.bsky.social, Tim Gomes, and Joseph Peterson. Meet Infernodrakon hastacollis - a new name for the azhdarchid from the Hell Creek Formation! Life restoration by @jhemiptera.bsky.social
Scientists are now organizing events, called Stand Up for Science, on 7 March in Washington, D.C., and state capitals. So far, they have attracted more than 100 volunteers from some 30 states who are hoping to rally support for research as a public good. scim.ag/4328LAD
