I think this is a real breakthrough moment for metabolically-grounded models of cognition! Congratulations @davidcolaco.bsky.social and @phaueis.eurosky.social on your paper and commentary!!

The complete version of @phaueis.eurosky.social and my BBS target article, "Metabolic considerations for cognitive modeling," is now available. It includes 32 commentaries and our response. Please share #philsci #philsky #cogsci

Does the brain really favor a particular threshold of statistical evidence, or should one simply let the statistical tail wag the science dog? Why not show the continuity of evidence in fMRI results rather than drawing an arbitrary boundary? More information, greater transparency & reproducibility.

Have you ever felt like something was missing from your #fmri results? Have you been worried about potential reproducibility issues? Well, this new @natmethods.nature.com article with 40+ coauthors shows how the simple change to transparent thresholding helps both. Go Figure! rdcu.be/B4tikBETdQZa

A comparison of old and new thresholding approaches for fMRI data. The newer, transparent thresholding allows for interpreting context, more complete modeling, a reduction of biases and an increase in meaningful content. This all leads to more accurate interpretations and improved reproducibility evaluations.

Are you studying human neuroscience broadly defined, and enjoy working with bright and motivated students? If so we'd love to see your application for this TT position at Pomona College! Review of applications begins on Oct 1.

Please share widely: We're hiring!📣 The Departments of Psychological Science and Neuroscience at @pomonacollege.bsky.social are seeking candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Psychological Science and Neuroscience. academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/32248

Biomedical scientists - a reminder that NIH proposes to "improve" peer review by hiding impact scores from Program Officers and applicants, and binning applications into broad categories of "Most competitive,""Competitive," or "Not discussed." Please provide feedback before the October 13 deadline!

We keep discussing ”strategies” for teaching in the age of AI to avoid talking about resources. It’s so boring!! The strategy is invest $ to hire people, lower class size, support research-engaged learning & stop measuring the worth of disciplines in relation to # of enrollments and majors.

“Lost media” no longer! I finally got permission to upload “AL’S BRAIN,” an 11-minute educational 3-D film attraction which ran at the Orange County and Western Washington fairs, and hasn’t been seen publicly since 2009. You can watch the whole thing here: youtu.be/2xujU87ZHt4
