Yeah, yeah, yeah. Dems won. Bluenami. All that. What does that make today? The first day of the 2028 election for all the marbles. The majorities won yesterday are already under threat. Plus replacing Trump with a Dem president is critical. Time to get back to work.

I have seen this firsthand in federal district courts. SCOTUS may get the headlines, but America owes so many members of the judiciary a debt of gratitude for holding the line - alone - against autocratic rule.
Steve Vladeck@stevevladeck.bsky.social · 2d agoFor the last 21 months, the lower federal courts have been fighting a rearguard action against the lawlessness of the Trump administration—with no support from Congress and very little from #SCOTUS. One of tonight’s less visible consequences will be that we’ll have a Congress that has their backs.
I cannot recommend reading this enough. Steve is brilliant and always a good read. But this is an inflection point for the Court and our country. Since Dobbs it has been on an ugly trajectory contrary to the way most Americans want to live. They have exacerbated it since. Time for change.

I wrote this nearly a year ago and the emphasis was redistricting. But the point is still valid today. While people should be celebratory today, remember that it is also the first day in the real battle to come in 2028.

But in the redistricting wars started by Republicans, Democrats cannot get caught up focusing on November 2026. It is January 3, 2029 that matters the most. My elation for candidate victories is tempered by a deep, profound sadness for a ballot measure loss in my home state of a Colorado. Two weeks ago I warned passage of Propositions 134 & 135 would make us the “Hate State” again. Here we are.
