Blasé Boylan@blazesboylan.bsky.social · 2d agoWhen Fred Trump was in the throes of dementia, they set up an office for him to go to every day, where they would have him sign blank sheets of paper, to replicate his business schedule (according to Mary Trump in her book). This really feels like that.
Trump’s justice department can grant him immunity from audits but I see no reasons why a subsequent administration can’t say: that was patently illegal, toss it out, and crawl all the way up his ass.

Is the news here that taxpayers subsidize the things the government does? Because yeah, that's how it works. What's more expensive, five grocery stores with discounts in NYC, a la military PXes (which taxpayers subsidize) or treating people for health problems caused by food insecurity?

Industry-wide margins are high because this is a global refining capacity shortage not a few US corps cornering a market.

Barnett@ericacbarnett.bsky.social · 2w agoThe Seattle City Council just voted 6-3 to approve Joy Hollingsworth's amendment to delay universal school lunches for kids, replacing them with vouchers for qualifying low-income parents to buy groceries over school breaks and weekends. Eddie Lin, Alexis Mercedes Rinck, and Rob Saka voted no.
So under this Supreme Court's treatment of U.S. law and presidential power, Joe Biden couldn't forgove my student loans, but perhaps Donald Trump can forgive his own tax debt. Wild.

They're both a core part of Dem leadership and have 90s era beliefs about what voters want. Jeffries and Schumer are ideologically aligned and when Jeffries was born is irrelevant, but he was getting a master's in Public Policy in 1994. His political coming of age was in the Clinton era.

I keep arguing that Dem leadership (Schumer, Jeffries, etc.) are stuck in the 90s, as are many of the high profile Dem consultants and advisors. They think most voters are de facto moderate. This is why their thinking is outdated:
