These are fair criticisms but miss the crucial point... Academics publish in expensive OA journals because top journals and citation count remain the dominant factors in determining whether you get hired and whether you get promoted... This will not change unless the incentive structure changes
Why do academics not publish their work on an academic shared space that universities collectively use? Why is it required to have a layer of publishers that simply do not publish anymore. In the days of expensive paper printing it made sense. In the digital era it makes no sense at all.
