Well that's just a cool visual. Navy ship under construction. I think it'll be the HMCS Preserver.

Windy day in Vancouver, which can only mean - new batch of shipwrecks.
A reminder came up in my FB mentions... This one time on October 8th, I went to Genova, Italy, to the house where Christopher Columbus was born and installed a plaque on it, claiming it on behalf of the Indigenous Peoples of the Americas.
As part of a contract I'm doing for a bunch of First Nations cultural institutions, I built a Canadian Indigenous cultural institutions directory. With museums, archives, language, cultural centres, as well as funders. Check it out here: www.indigstitutions.org

Me: Sunny warm day, what better day to finally cycle out to White Rock? White Rock:
A deep gorgeous story that sits in the bones and the heart. Read it. (Thank you, Robert Jago.)
I finally finished this short story - it’s set in the late 1940s and centres around these kids back from Residential School - the family tries to fix them, and in the course of it awakens the stelaqelm - a race of supernatural monsters… substack.com/@rjjago/note...

This is the third incident of a car driving through a residential school march in the last 5 years. Oddly high number of coincidences. When they drove through the one I was at, the police minimized and excused that one at first too. So I'd be curious what this investigation will actually show.
Ok I’ve now asked around - it’s not just me. Why did no one tell us all that there was a whole ass other seawall on the North Shore, in WestVan?!

It's finally kiwi-berry season. They're like kiwis, but they're the size of cherries (apple next to it for comparison). Also they had tiny cantaloupes at the market today - it's on the left by the 'ground cherries'.
I keep meaning to ask - anyone know - what are these things? These are at the edge of terra nova lands in Richmond. They line the entire ocean-facing side of Lulu Island, and I’ve not seen them anywhere else.
Here's something I've been working on for a while, that I'll be getting into a lot more soon. This is where Land Acknowledgements come from, this is what they mean, and this is how you've all been doing them wrong.
This has been in the works for a while. What @rjjago.bsky.social delivered went far deeper than we could've hoped. It gives us a lot to reflect on in our work but also will hopefully contribute to the much wider conversation.
In 2023, I was working with a charity & we did this market to serve food/provide clothes/haircuts for ppl on the DTES. Pete Fry and Ken Sim said they'd come. Pete Fry came, Ken Sim didn't. 2 weeks later, Ken Sim had the homeless people in the park rounded up, their possessions put in garbage cans.
Here's the full video! It's an interesting variant on the "my haters don't know what I've been through" message, and probably evidence that the ABC Vancouver team thinks it's necessary to play up his post-Swagger personality a little bit more

A Vancouver-area First Nation has issued a travel advisory for the US, after members were detained by ICE.
Also talking of looming press conferences-Musqueam has scheduled one with the MLS WhiteCaps for tomorrow. They have enough money…
AFAIK there’s no example in Canadian history of a PM/Premier calling a snap election when the opposition has no leader (snap with new leaders, sure). No leader? Custom has been to wait. So how voters react to what’s basically a dirty trick is unpredictable. Eby is gambling with BC.

JFK's address to Canada's parliament: "Geography has made us neighbors. History has made us friends. Economics has made us partners. And necessity has made us allies." www.presidency.ucsb.edu/documents/ad... Significant that this is being used now with the Canada-France relationship.

This is probably the biggest esl/career college youth exchange company in Canada. Adjacent to my old sector - these guys started the downward spiral with their predatory commissions. Now they’re going out of business.
I talked about PostMedia stock on here the other day and the same day someone bought 1000 shares and halved the value of the stock. Ok... which one of you did it?
Interesting discovery - in July an American Postmedia investor sold nearly $1 million in shares in a private sale. The buyer isn't disclosed. I found this while looking for their annual report. Postmedia's class C shares are surprisingly cheap and few. They have weird voting structure... 1
This is a British mockumentary I saw as a kid, called "War with America" - about the US threatening war with Europe after the EU lands troops in Quebec to protect it from annexation. It's been lost for ages and reappeared on YouTube this year: www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYpA...

The EU has Associated status for member territories, as well as prospective members (it also has the EEA) - and the EU proper extends into North America, South America, and Africa (see map on the back of every Euro - lower left in the boxes). Law doesn’t matter, only political will.
Paul Wells is right on every point. Canada is not eligible to join the EU because it is not geographically part of Europe. There is no such thing as “Associate Status” The vast majority of Canadians support free trade and closer ties with Europe, including Stephen Harper substack.com/@bobrae48/no...
