I don’t get involved in partisan politics these days. Frankly, both political parties have disappointed me greatly in recent years.
But this year I’m making an exception and giving my public endorsement to Rep. Rob Wittman in Virginia’s 1st congressional district.
Why? Because I know Rob Wittman and I know his opponent, Shannon Taylor.
I served with Rob Whitman when he was in the Virginia House of Delegates and I was a State Senator and then Lieutenant Governor.
Rob Wittman was one of the smartest, most principled, and most reasonable members of the General Assembly, and he’s brought those same qualities to Congress, where they are desperately needed.
Rob Wittman is a good and decent person, who is involved in government and politics for all the right reasons - he sincerely wants to make our state and our country better.
On the other hand, Shannon Taylor is what’s wrong with government and politics today.
Taylor is what I call a candidate in search of a campaign. She’s a political opportunist.
Having been defeated for the Democratic nomination for Attorney General in 2025, Taylor wasted no time declaring her candidacy for Congress in 2026.
And should she lose this campaign, as I sincerely hope she will, she’ll waste no time finding another office to run for because she’s a power hungry political wannabe be.
But that’s not all.
As Henrico County’s Commonwealth Attorney Taylor has done little to support law enforcement or the rule of law. She’s a liberal extremist who has been terribly soft on crime.
Taylor has also proven herself to be untrustworthy. Just look at the dishonest, negative attack ads she has been running against Rob Wittman.
Taylor knows her criticisms of Wittman are dishonest, but she doesn’t care. She’ll do anything to win, even if it means smearing the reputation of a good and decent man.
