Delegated my memory to the internet long ago. Kindness is cool. Scotland's Library and Information Professional of the Year 2023. All views my own. She/her. Trans rights are human rights. Greatest achievement: using up an entire lip balm.

I enjoy when I come across snippets about historical judiciary that show they were just normal folks too. Like the Lord President who had an illegitimate son while he was Solicitor General for Scotland. Son never inherited his father's Baronetcy as he was not "lawfully begotten.”

The main improvement I'd want from the British Newspaper Archive is for the search within bookmarked articles to search your notes on the articles, not the article text. The OCR on the original may be rubbish, it's my notes that make it make sense! blog.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/2026/07/14/t...

Another event where I was successfully socially awkward and managed to appear mostly incoherent in at least 3 separate conversations. You'd think I'd know how to do conversations by now but the later the event the stronger the introversion.

Maybe one day Trove will grasp that in between commercial, educational body and private use there's also generally the option of non-commercial use, or some understanding of the existence of not-for-profit/public sector bodies who want to use historic images for public education.

"It has been held more recently that calling a sports administrator a “dictator” might fall within the defence, as the phrase no longer had the connotation of murder associated with Hitler or Stalin" Well, that's...good to know?

Im so exhausted by this pattern. Historians spend years in the archives to write detailed accounts of the past. Only for journalists, doctors, podcasters, and now cartoonists, to swoop in and get paid a lot of money to trot out the same work, "uncovering hidden histories" that are not at all hidden.

An open letter, to readers, about Charity and Sylvia. I am very pained to feel the need to write this. #queerhistory #pride
