Max Miller & Graham Platner are edgelords, writes @queenmab.bsky.social -- and the Dems don't need to echo the GOP's embrace of toxic masculinity. After all, the left has its own election-winning brand of masculinity: the "Mamdani man." Another 🔥 take on the dumpster fire that is modern politics

What Is 'Edgelord' Politics—and Why Are Democrats Flirting With It Before the Midterms?

Max Miller, Graham Platner, and the rise of edgelord politics on the left. Democrats don't need toxic men to win young male voters. Here's why.

New domestic violence accusations against Rep. Max Miller come just weeks after the scandal that ended Graham Platner's Senate race. As more young men run for office, @queenmab.bsky.social explains why we need to talk about "edgelord" politics, and how Dems keep flirting with it.

I can’t believe we’re reliving Andrea Yates. Lindsay Clancy begged for help. She didn’t want to kill her children. And everyday I swear people questioning if this can really be blamed on post partum psychosis. The response to this tragedy is connected to our forced birth culture

Last night, Maine Democratic nominee Graham Platner suspended his campaign for Senate following sexual assault allegations. Back in May, @queenmab.bsky.social wrote about how women’s safety has routinely been sacrificed to protect the political careers of powerful men.

Democrat Graham Platner has pulled out of Maine's Senate race after allegations of sexual assault and rape. This latest scandal comes after Eric Swalwell resigned from Congress and his California governor bid earlier this year. Mia Brett writes on why women keep secrets and when they come forward.

Women often downplay sexual violations when we’re assaulted by men we know. We say it was a bad hookup, an uncomfortable sexual experience, it was our fault. That we do this doesn’t mean we weren’t assaulted. It means it’s difficult to admit a man we trusted did this

It’s misogyny to erase the multiple examples I’ve given of the work I do, presume you know better, and suggest women are only caring about democrats committing sexual assault out of political bias. Calling out your misogyny isn’t name calling.

Bill Mitchell@modalbluesky.bsky.social · 4w ago

It is not misogyny but instead pointing out a bias that is do very clear in an election year where the Republicans will do anything to win. Do you really want to stoop to calling names? Be better…

I’ve listed multiple things I’ve done to stand against sexual abusers across political parties but this man presumes to lecture women that were not doing anything. Abusers being in power is not the fault of women who are doing everything we can. This is pure misogyny

Bill Mitchell@modalbluesky.bsky.social · 4w ago

So you even admit it then that you are doing nothing? No calls to restore the media? No protests? Just roll op and play dead? Wake the F up!

I will keep writing about patriarchy and sexual abuse until we end it. I don’t care how many people have talked about it before or how tired you are of hearing it. Voting is wholly insufficient in addressing these problems. If you don’t want to hear about it don’t listen

memedavis.bsky.social@memedavis.bsky.social · 4w ago

No, but I don’t know why you’d be writing shit about this. Everybody’s known this for hundreds and hundreds of years dummy we don’t need books about it. We need to change the way it is happening. VOTE

This story on the dirty secrets of powerful men almost didn’t get done bc the list kept getting longer. The list grows again now.

In May I wrote for @rewirenewsgroup.com abt the sacrifices women make in politics. We’re expected to stay silent abt sexism & assault. Many of us knew who Platner was & were told to be quiet to beat Collins. Jenny Racicot’s story shows we were right rewirenewsgroup.com/2026/05/12/e...

It has not been 250 years of freedom. It has been 400 years of colonialism and racism. There have been moments of the possibility of something better. Small promises of improvement. But the current moment is showing the worst of our legacy
