"Neuvottelukunnan ratkaisut eivät ole kunnioittaneet OECD-ohjeistoja, neuvottelukunnan jäsenten jääväyskäytännöissä on ongelmia ja valittajille asetettu näyttökynnys on muodostunut kohtuuttoman korkeaksi, Finnwatchin toiminnanjohtaja Sonja Finér sanoo."
Finnwatch on päättänyt erota työ- ja elinkeinoministeriön alaisesta yhteiskunta- ja yritysvastuun neuvottelukunnasta YHVAsta. Olemme olleet jo pitkään tyytymättömiä neuvottelukunnan toimintaan, resursseihin ja rakenteeseen.

Frederick Douglass, 1857: Those who profess to favor freedom yet deprecate agitation want crops without plowing the ground; they want rain without thunder + lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its waters. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will.

Your reminder that a slave economy was not necessary to have a society where social hierarchy was upheld by possession of enslaved people.
When late antique ascetics left their “worldly possessions” behind, did that include all their enslaved persons? Um, no it did not. E.T. Dailey & Justin Pigott have a new, open access article in EME on “Ascetics, slaves, and necessity in Late Antiquity: renouncing all wealth, but for a single slave”
This is extraordinarily bad, as even the UK copyright libraries (e.g. Cambridge) have moved over to frequently only acquiring the ebook version of new publications. If you don't own the hard copy, you're just renting and you are at the mercy of the publisher.
"In 2022, Wiley removed over 1,300 ebooks from academic library collections; [they said] perpetual access is not an option for subscribed content. In 2025, Clarivate,... announced they would stop offering libraries perpetual access licenses for ebooks and primary-source digital collections."
