Rob hints at this but it’s worth reiterating that a major failure of the Starmer government was their inability to convey a consistent antiracist message or uphold norms. They confused anger about ‘the boats’ with generalised racism and since they couldn’t denounce the former they avoided the latter

In a break between dances I noticed the ceilidh band was playing music from Monkey Island! One of my favourite, & certainly most meaningful, games. My dad & I played the first together when I was a teenager, & the last came out shortly after his death making it particularly emotional (that ending!)
Some photos from inside the very lovely building which is the Victoria Baths (opened in 1906 if I remember correctly), which was the venue for a wedding I attended yesterday in Manchester.
Yesterday I spent 3.5 hours labelling all the bride’s beer cans for a friend’s wedding (beer brewed specially for it with their involvement), as part of their setup at the wedding venue. At the same time someone else did all the groom’s cans.

Ewan Gibbs@ewangibbs.bsky.social · 6d agoOil lobbyists and SNP and Tory politicians will tell you BP is leaving the North Sea due to tax levels. That isn’t a credible explanation. In reality it’s down to the relative profitability of production and geology.

Ewan Gibbs@ewangibbs.bsky.social · 6d agoIn the twenty-first century, North Sea became viewed as an aging, depleting and expensive basin. BP began concentrating its efforts in more profitable oil provinces. It sold Forties to the smaller independent, Apache, in 2003.

I have known Le Porge since I was a child. Much of it is now ash. We were warned this would come. We kept burning fossil fuels anyway. Adapting to this is not a plan. Stopping the cause is.

Last year in Sheffield (down the road from Leeds) there was hose pipe ban that lasted *5 months*, from July until December. Based on that alone, the fact that these projects are even being considered is deeply concerning.
