My Instagram feed is full of suffested posts about Festival of Quilts. For once I don't mind the silly amount of suggested posts! 😁

Crop yields down, our countryside scorched and over 2800 people are dead due to this summer's heatwaves. Meanwhile fossil fuel giants are raking in record profits. We must end this rampant profiteering, and cut fossil fuels from our energy mix as soon as possible.
BP profits more than double to $5.7bn in three months as Iran war sends oil prices soaring - "While BP banks enormous profits, millions of households are paying the price" #energycrisis #climatecrisis www.theguardian.com/business/202...
For some reason I'm ridiculously excited about having spaghetti aglio e olio for dinner tonight. 😁
Worst we’ve known’: UK turns to imports as drought and heat hit vegetable crops. Food insecurity and higher prices would follow. Poor hit the hardest. Despite warnings, no plan for water shortages. Need reservoirs, water storage, better water management. Companies can't do national planning.

🧵 16/30 Daily mini quilts from June 2023. This is kind of wonky but I like it anyway. And I had fun with the quilting. 😀 #QuiltSky
I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful
🧵 15/30 Daily mini quilts from June 2023. The birds are back! 🐦😀 I think I should have made more quilts with the birds but I got distracted by other ideas... 😁 #QuiltSky
Going through old photos and I found this one from 2005. A happy potato! 😁
I think about this exchange between Galadriel and Gandalf every so often because I believe it to be true, especially now more than ever.
Absolutely shameful piece. Even if a "Mediterranean" future were desirable - and a third of a million people are currently fleeing an inferno - what about those parts of the world being made uninhabitable? Where do their people go? Heath doesn't want them here. www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/2026...
Britain can’t stop climate change. Scrap net zero and embrace Mediterranean life
We’ve lost the war against global warming so let’s learn to handle hotter weather

The red Moon rose, Bat flitters above the garden And there was a fox on the neighbour's garage...
‘Anthropic described the project as “our effort to disruptively scan all the world’s books” in an internal memo, which noted “we do not want it to be known that we are pursuing this project”.’

I've confirmed that the UK's new Sovereign AI Fund does no due diligence on whether AI companies use copyrighted work without permission before investing in them. It took me 3 Freedom of Information requests to find this out: 🧵 1/10
Destroying books in order to feed them into slop machines is still plagiarism, whatever corrupt/incompetent judges might say. And when they are destroying rare books, they are destroying human knowledge. We know that "AI" products aren't repositories of information, much less intelligent. 1/
No longer content with pillaging intellectual work and dismembering our environment (already critically weakened), AI companies are now hellbent on destroying books galore including rare editions. Shut down these nefarious enterprises already.
🧵 13/30 Daily mini quilts from June 2023. Trip around the world block. Can you spot the error?! 😁 #QuiltSky

AI is a social issue. Poisoning water and destroying knowledge, most of which was created through our collective federal tax dollars which the rich DO NOT PAY, for profit is a social issue that is separate from "are you pro AI or anti AI?"
So a trans woman got slammed for taking photos of herself in the mirror of a public toilet (which I, a cis woman, did A LOT in my teen years) but now the wizard lady wants you to take photos of people who you THINK are trans in public toilets without their consent?
If you're still buying wizard book shit, you are no friend to the trans community. Here's the wizard book bigot inciting harassment against innocent people to her 14 million followers on the nazi app. And no, they can't Always Tell.
🧵 12/30 Daily mini quilts from June 2023. Random bits of fabrics put together in random ways. I like this kind of improv sewing. Quilting lines to emphasise some of the shapes. #QuiltSky
To replace human educators with chatbots or robots is to give corporations - entities run by people we already know have nothing but greed and theft on their minds - the power to brainwash children and students. Be afraid of a future in which doctors and leaders went through school this way.
I'm absolutely devastated for colleagues at Jodrell Bank who found out this morning that funding for the UK's e-MERLIN radio telescope array will be terminated. This is a short-sighted move, to save a tiny fraction of the overall UK science budget. #SaveJodrellBank 🔭🧪 www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Jodrell Bank's Lovell telescope faces axe in science cuts, BBC understands
Astronomers warn it would tear the heart out of UK science, and leave a generation untrained.
bbc.co.uk
“What will the Lovell Telescope discover/enable 20 yrs from now? I can’t tell you, and that’s the point. It will either be something extraordinary that none of us can yet predict, or we will defund it and leave Cheshire with a rusting monument to unfulfilled potential and discoveries never made.” 🔭🧪
Obligatory ALT text appreciation post. Asking fellow artists and anybody who posts images, but especially artists, please add ALT to your images. Very often I see a great image and want to boost it but don't because there's no ALT. Please help us make BlueSky accessible to everyone. ✌🏻
And then I found some more wonky log cabin blocks. This time all in dotted fabrics. 😀 #QuiltSky
Sooo...I just found a pile of 25 wonky log cabin blocks that I forgot all about. 😅 Made from scraps of Denyse Schmidt fabrics. I guess they will become a quilt at some point... 😁 #QuiltSky
150,000 marched yesterday in London for trans rights. Opened the Sky News app. Scrolled and scrolled. Nothing. BBC News app. Nothing. Guardian app. Nothing. This is what actual silencing looks like.
I join you from the Blaenavon wildfire in Southeast Wales, brought to you by BP, Shell and Equinor. Though it does not look dramatic, the fire has been out of control for days - for a very particular reason. 🧵
25 tonnes of nurdles, more than 1 billion nurdles, were spilled into the Tyne last week and are washing up on our beaches, north and south of the Tyne. Likely one of the largest ever plastic pollution events in the UK. There is remarkably little mention of this on here.
