The thing about "playersexual" love interests in video games is their romances are almost never written as queer - they're written as straight, and the pronouns are swapped out. This introduces friction when playing through them as queer - a female PC romancing a female NPC is treated like a male

In college I remember feeling like "Man, I wish animation didn't have all these frames you have to draw." but not realizing that the only thing that mattered was timing and poses and nothing else at all and I congratulate every animator who figured that out and ran with it.
