lots of discussion on how this will affect tech jobs, but once again this applies to academia also every professor you know on a visa will now have to leave the US for a green card, sometimes for multiple years. many will give up in the process. universities may not give them back their jobs.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) reaffirms this consistent and longstanding approach and declares as a matter of general policy its intention to faithfully apply the statutes consistently with this understanding.

This concentration camp was opened at Fort Bliss, the site of a former Japanese internment camp. It also cost over $1B in private contracts to build in a place meant to hold 1000 people. So, basically it’s a fascist grift. shorturl.at/qhuSc

Dear search committees and HR, while we should be absolutely worried about this, please do not take this as fact and aniticipatorily screen out international candidates. That would only make it a self-fulfilling prophecy. Check with your legal counsel.

new white house FAQ, which implies the $100k fee applies to cap-exempt orgs. what this means for universities: 1) if you hire a non-US citizen for a TT job, you have to pay the fee 2) if someone with an H1B visa on a TT job tries to change jobs, they also pay www.whitehouse.gov/articles/202...
