This morning Pete Hegseth said "The sooner David Ellison takes over CNN, the better." Ellison may be able to buy CBS News and CNN. Jeff Bezos can buy the Washington Post. But Democracy Docket is not for sale. Support pro-democracy independent media by signing up now. bit.ly/4qr0jTS

BBC reporting that Andrew Mountbatten Windsor has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office. There is no precedent for a senior member of the royal family being placed under arrest in modern British history. A seismic moment for the monarchy.

Sad to be leaving after 3 formative, brilliant years but so proud of what we've achieved as a team ❤️ The work Newsmast does matters and I wish them all the best. They'll always have a supporter in me, and I will remain engaged in and an advocate for the social web 🕸✊️

As Freddie, @playawfulthings.bsky.social, comes to the end of his time with the Newsmast Foundation team, we'd like to take a moment to celebrate all he's achieved. Freddie has been with us since the start, from the original idea and through the many evolutions that have grown Newsmast.

An image of Freddie smiling into the camera with text reading: "Thank you Freddie!"

There's a lot to look forward to at the #Fediverse track at #SFSCon but @saskiakezia.com and @michaelfoster.bsky.social talk on growing the open social web, in the context of liberalism's crisis.

We're heading to #SFSCon We're really excited to meet a community of people passionate about free software and, specifically, those who are making the trip to Bolzano for the Fediverse track, sponsored by #FediForum 🎉 Our talk is in the Fediverse track on Friday. We hope we'll see you there!

An image showing details on SFSCon. It reads: November 7th-8th 2025. We'll be there. Digital sovereignty. IOT. AI. Data Spaces. Cybersecurity. SFSCON.IT. Cohesion Italy 21-27. Co-funded by the European Union. It also has a detailed list of sponsors.

Advice please: what are the new local journalism outlets sticking it to power? I'm thinking of publications like the Bristol Cable, Inside Croydon and West Country Voices. Which others should be on the list? Thanks.

A good 70% of the fighting over AI would have been avoided if VC hucksters (and gullible access journalists) hadn't conflated incrementally useful automation with computational sentience to make money

Just finished up at the Evanston No Kings rally. It was safe, peaceful, and a show of solidarity by *at least* 1,000 people. Go to your local protest. Don’t let this administration scare you. Stand with your community when our leaders won’t.

I’m standing between two people holding one of their protest signs which reads, “I POUR MY COCKTAILS SERVED UP — NO ICE!!!”A man in a flannel shirt holds a sign with “8647” between his parents who are sitting in mobility aids. Their signs read “GRANDMA’S PISSED OFF!” and “DUE PROCESS FOR ALL!”Ben and I talk to a man in a mobility aid with a sign reading “Cutting Medicare and Medicaid WILL KILL people like me!”

“According to KMSP-TV, the lawmakers were shot by two men dressed like police officers and driving a car that looked like a police car. One of the suspects was taken into custody in Brooklyn Park after an officer-involved shooting. The second suspect is still at large.” bnonews.com/index.php/20...
