i realize now that i made a silly error on my complex analysis final where I forgot the "L" part of the ML estimate for the Cauchy estimate (multiplying by 2πR cancels with the 2π you get from the "M" part). i must remember that the Cauchy Estimate is a shitty bake sale (i.e. there's no π).
