"A concentration camp, in its most basic definition, is a place where a targeted civilian population, not necessarily accused of a crime, is detained and at least some of their basic rights are suspended," writes @jwashing.bsky.social. "That’s precisely what’s happening in the United States today."

Don’t call them ICE detention centers. Call them camps | John Washington

I’ve spent a decade reporting on immigration enforcement. The word ‘camp’ best captures the political function of these facilities

People still complain about “lockdowns” but we had none in the US. We had stay-at-home orders, where although businesses were closed, you could still go outside whenever you wanted. Other countries had far stricter rules, and yet have been much more accepting of them as they saved many more lives.

Let’s be clear here, when scientists say mistakes were made at the start of the pandemic, we DO NOT mean that we did too much. We mean not socially distancing quickly enough, not making tests widely available, and not acknowledging COVID is airborne and distributing N95 masks to everyone.

Super stoked about this episode with my former spouse/forever family Dr. Leo Kattari, include his storytelling model for sharing your story when it comes to effective advocacy.

In this week's episode of the SuRGe Ahead Podcast, we're seeing Dr. Kattari times two (@drshannak.bsky.social & Dr. Leo Kattari) with a conversation on organizing, advocacy, and how to use storytelling to change hearts and minds. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXcs... open.spotify.com/episode/2WBa...

I cannot share intensely enough how meaningful this study was to conduct and this paper was to write, hearing again and again how hard these parents and caregivers of trans kids in states with gender affirming care fought for and supported their kids. I’m so proud of this love letter to them.

We are SO pleased to share that our publication on the experiences parents and caregivers of trans and gender diverse kids living in states with gender affirming care bans has been published (open access): link.springer.com/article/10.1... [please excuse typo in title, working on it!)

This shit with Taylor Farms is exactly what I’m talking about when I say you may say you “don’t do politics,“ but politics are more than happy to do you. The microbes political bribes got out the door and into your intestines don’t particularly care that you find it all beneath you.

Subtweet because there is no point in getting in the middle of something so I'm not going to send you to it but this is in response to something. Resistance movements fail until they don't. And after there's a win, something changes again. Which means you keep making the world better. Forever.

My pre-write turned out to be 70% a. CDC's comms have been wildly irresponsible; b. If I couldn't prove lettuce is not from Taylor Farms, I wouldn't eat it; c. Taylor Farms gave MAGA Inc. $1M USD less than a week after FDA postponed food traceability rules. www.patreon.com/mattbc/posts...

Q: Do we know what is causing the cyclospora outbreak? Taylor Foods iceberg lettuce has been identified as a cause. (At this point, Taylor F

We had 6 years to adopt clean air standards We had 6 years to normalize masking Society chose denial instead Now as wildfires rage & the air turns to poison … people are left unprotected Covid cautious folks are still trying to protect those who’ve ignored them for years.

If you don't think so, they'll get you too. This government is committing genocide against trans people, disabled people including mentally ill people & those with autism, Black people, immigrants, & Natives. You will not be safe as a middle class white person forever.

A lot of people don’t realize the dust bowl wasn’t a natural phenomenon. It happened when agrobusiness interests dramatically transformed the plains without regard for drought, and created vicious dust storms that choked whole families to death. That’s what I think of when I read about data centers.

Canada gave people $2000 a month during Covid “shutdown” That was what they felt folks needed to survive. Disabled Canadians are expected to focus on half that. The wait time for affordable housing? 7-10 years. Palliative care? Years. Homecare? At least 1.5 years. Assisted death? 3 months.

Hey, do me a favor and do an internet search for "free fridge" and your town's name. And then go drop some stuff off when you have some food you're not gonna eat. Got some takeout with an extra wonton soup you're not gonna eat? Take it to the free fridge. Someone needs it. Seriously.
