We are so pleased to share that SIX of our members are on the (academic) job market this 2026-2027 cycle. Please check out our job booklet at www.SRGCollective.com to learn a little more about them and their work, and feel free to reach out if they might be a good fit for your institution.

Y’all. It’s 2026. Why are you still using the word lame for anything other than to describe an animal (human or not) with a limp? Get it together. Being ableist isn’t cool.
This is such an amazing program from @crashpadseries.bsky.social !!
Did you know professionals can now access @crashpadseries.bsky.social and get gift cards for their clients if it feels useful? Great for therapists, counselors, educators, etc. @drshannak.bsky.social uses it in class, and it's game changing for a lot of students. crashpadseries.com/queer-porn/c...
Okay rich friends employed with companies that do employer matching: Please help me raise $7k to support @scarleteen.com's fall fundraiser. We're expecting 7 million visitors this year (up from 5 million!) in a climate where access to good sex ed, esp. for LGBTQIA+ young people, is dwindling.

This was so fun to record, and I learned a lot about reproductive rights, Kentucky/Appalachia, and more!

Thrilled to be on this episode of US Association for the Study of Pain ‘s podcast, talking about whether research and science can ever truly be unbiased or apolitical (spoiler alert; it can’t) & talking about ways to navigate doing research on topics now banned. m.soundcloud.com/usasp/episod...

Totally convenience sampling poll for faculty; How would you feel if you were told AI was being used to summarize your promotion and/or tenure materials? Would you want to opportunity to consent/opt out? Would you worry that opting out might make your work be more deeply scrutinized?
It’s Ypsi Pride today (rescheduled due to wildfire fire smoke). Wishing all of y’all a Happy Pride and a reminder that we get to celebrate beyond a month.
Love hearing me yap? Good news: another episode of the SuRGe Ahead Podcast is available!

You know, it’s (funny/sad/ironic/disheartening) that I posted this over a year ago, and this is still very much the case, but also worse?
The most intersection of being both autistic and trans (and a professor) right now is its own special level of hell. While my whiteness and U.S. citizenship privilege protect me in many ways, all of the attacks on us have my nervous system totally dysregulated.
I love online education. I have since long before the pandemic, having gotten a certificate in online education in ‘14. I love the communities we make together, the vulnerability that comes with being in each other’s homes, the joy from meeting people’s pets & partners & progeny. Congrats Grads!

Ok, Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality, I see you. Their conference this year is virtual, for many many reasons, including not asking people from outside the U.S. to travel here, not asking trans folks to travel to states that are attacking them..
I love the many people saying Locked Tomb. I’d also say Becky Chambers’ Wayfarers series or T. Kingfisher’s Paladins/clockwork boys/Swordheart world
youve got 5.6 billion to make a 7 season 56 episode show airing over 15 years, wdyd
One of the things that is holding me during all of the rough times is building more community through the @srgcollective.bsky.social and especially through interviewing our members and learning about all the brilliance of their brains and work. Melinda was no exception to this.
New SuRGe Ahead episode just dropped. Join @drshannak.bsky.social & Dr. Melinda Chen regarding her book 'Killing Radicalism: Anti-Rape Advocacy Reimagined" and how she views this work as a tapestry of anti-violence movement(s). Find us on Spotify, YouTube, or our RSS feed rss.com/podcasts/sur...
Please enjoy this rare image of Vlad, our shyest rescue, showing off how much he loves draping himself over his Daddy to be held in this exact way, but only in the basement. Cats are weird and wonderful. Also, this is only our third biggest cat. Will let you sit with that.
Are any other academics reading R.F. Kuang’s Katabasis? I devoured it in two days (good read for sure), and also OOF. So activated by all the academia content and a reminder of the low key cult we are a part of. Def saw one of my PhD students yesterday and told them I hoped I was NEVER like that 😬

Please don’t offer disabled people “thoughts and prayers”. Don’t offer empty platitudes and inspirational memes. Offer real, tangible help… and then follow through. We lack support for the most basic activities of daily living. That’s where we need help.
