I’d rephrase it as looking to have their understanding of racial hierarchy and their place within it accepted by people outside of Latin America. For white Latinos they’re not trying to become white, they are white, they just come from Latin America.

Isn't it more about Hispanic people wanting to gain acceptance in the racial hierarchy. Border patrol has been staffed by most staffed by Hispanic people for decades for example.

Laura Kuessenberg promoting her morning programme on BBC News attacks Andy Burnham's comments on renewing relationships with EU stating this will mean 'unlimited immigration going backwards and forwards.' How does she get away with that?

The plan is to suspend the normal rules of capitalism and bailout inefficient companies by forcing households and businesses to pay more. Those rules are not suspended to help people.

UK energy bills could rise even more. Regulator is considering a Market Stabilization Charge to guarantee corporate profits. This would force energy companies to compensate consumers’ old suppliers for lost profits when people switch away. What would the govt do? Watch the Minister's reply.

thinking about how all the major party leaders in the UK including the prime minister issued sincere messages of condolence when the leader of Turning Point USA was killed but then when the leader of Turning Point UK was found to be facilitating murder-for-hire there is absolute silence

Israeli forces are preventing Palestinian journalists from covering the military crackdown in Hebron, as the number of affected families has risen to 338, more than 2,000 people, amid forced displacement and movement restrictions.

'There has been a tendency across the East of England for the arts and humanities to be the first to bear the brunt of cuts. This tendency not only has negative economic effects on the creative and cultural industries, but also erodes...underlying skills...developed by these course profiles.'

The whole "Islamofacism" thing is one big projection. If you're familiar with the development of Nationalism in North America and Europe, you'll know just how tied it was to Christian nationalism and race science.

I can’t tell you how much it distresses me that journalism like this gets so little attention in this county. If I write about some culture war nonsense, it’s gobbled up. But work like this which questions the very nature of our democracy - and is about life and death? It’s so often met with silence

Torture, terror and extrajudicial executions: the Dirty War in Northern Ireland and my search for truth For decades I’ve investigated collusion between British military intelligence and terrorists One question has always remained: given the crimes committed how can Britain call itself a democracy?

There is no future point coming where any of these people are satisfied and content. The whole point of this style of extreme, hate-driven politics is *to always keep fighting and demanding more*, forever, no matter how much you get your way. They will evolve, grow arms and legs.

How do you know these people are extremists? Because they cannot be appeased, even as our entire political/media class enforces their demands and repeats their drivel. It makes them not one bit happier, because they don’t want compliance: they want more extreme, forceful and violent measures.

Anyone who’s had this will tell you the same story and it is IMO important to understand the terror of transgender people as sex offenders is much the same thing as black-clad lads in the street shouting against migrants as sex offenders. They are different facets of the same reactionary project.

It's so telling that Robin Ince has used the word 'openly' here. Any time I write a piece in the Scottish press that's supportive of trans folk it unleashes a tidal wave of hate and threats that lasts for days. It is a deliberate exercise in silencing support and further isolating trans people.
Robin Ince @robinince.bsky.so... • 2h
As anyone who has openly supported trans rights has known for years - being called a rape promoter, getting death threats, spread of venomous lies etc etc is relentless - just media has had no interest in reporting that

Neal Lawson: "I couldn't live on the meagre benefits people are getting. To suggest that we have to cut those.. actually that's where the engine of growth is, that's the people who spend.. how do you get people out spending.. not by cutting benefits of people at the bottom"

This guy—former Labour independent adviser on political extremism—has not said a word about a former Conservative Party electoral candidate linked to a prominent right-wing political action group being captured on camera discussing political assassinations with a member of a proscribed terror group.

Now obviously this is an extremely intense form of McCarthyism, but let’s not lose sight of the fact that these people are primarily just horrible, very right wing psychos.

The idea that, after everything that's happened, a future Dem administration/DOJ would just be forced to respect blanket, preemptive pardons issued by Trump to cover up crimes, is absurd. The pardon power is not a magic spell that we are helpless to overcome.

Agents I know are passionate about finding authors with exciting voices, genuinely committed to new talent. But amid a deluge of slurry, I suspect many commitments to inclusion and outreach to under represented authors could be washed away.
