I heard this and I am just shocked. In 2026, with much more advanced models, "AI" (an LLM) cannot copyedit a manuscript remotely well. If AI was a better copyeditor than you, a professional copyeditor, in 2023... I genuinely do not know to say. The implication is obvious, in the speaker's own words.

Servais: When I started experimenting with AI for copyediting, it was better than me at copyediting, and I was a copyediting instructor for UC San Diego.

Me about a week ago: "Huh. I haven't booked much for January yet. But I shouldn't worry. This is always the case. It'll be fine. Right? Right?" About ten clients this week: "Hey, do you have time to edit this in the new year?" I will never learn that yes, it'll be fine. They'll come. #AmEditing

I was busy recently! I needed some time to recover from the contents of one larger manuscript I worked on (a book about WW2 crimes). Thankfully, I also had (somewhat) lighter topics, such as trailing spouses and El Salvador's political situation. Never a dull moment, I guess? #AmEditing
