I feel your (and TT faculty's) pain. Yes, UP books inform P&T decisions, but I try to stress/remind authors that UPs are not formally responsible for tenure. We are merely trying to publish the best possible books we can for a community of readers well beyond a) PhD committees and b) P&T committees.
