This weekend I watched two blockbusters. I found Odyssey to be an impressive spectacle but left having felt nothing and thought nothing new of any value to myself or the world. Then I wept through Spider-Man and marveled at humanity. Genre is circumstantial. Good storytelling is paramount.

For your convenience, the Pride and Prejudice live-posting super-thread 📚
So I’ve started Pride and Prejudice, and already I feel bad for Mrs Bennet.
Follow @trungles.com for any reason because he's a delight as a human and amazing as an artist, writer, and book creator. But Pride & Prejudice fans, do not miss his recently completed mega live posting while reading Austen's novel for the first time. See Trung's first skeet in the thread below.

Someone said to me, "I'm sorry but I got your book from a library." Nobody should ever apologise for that. You read my book! That's brilliant! I grew up hanging out in libraries and the idea of a world without them fills me with dread. Without libraries, authors, like readers, will only suffer.
So today I learned there are little doors in the gates to the Colosseum in Rome because the city cats go there at night to sleep. cc @darthbluesky.bsky.social
I drew a party flyer on a sticky note with a sharpie, stuck it on a trash can, and texted it out
I was in popular Gen Z hangouts yesterday in Salt Lake City (coffee shops, thrift stores) and the many flyers hanging up were clearly all done by hand. No Ai slop in sight. I think we'll keep seeing a move against polished visuals as proof it's not Ai. When you've lost the youth...

Using Ai as a “reference” sucks because it’s a dead end to learning and curiosity. There are more artists and writers whose work I can be inspired by and I can always dig deeper into them to learn more, but Ai flattens it to the result with no way to find out what parts were stolen from who.
i've already decided that i'm going to start printing out my fanfiction as a zine and leaving it in little free libraries near me
Approach zine making the same way that you made blog posts 10 years ago. Do you have an opinion that maybe 8 friends and like 3 strangers might be interested in? An answer to a question that's infrequently asked? A rant you could turn into a tight 5? that's zine material right there, buds

4) If you don't like what someone says, scrolling on by (or blocking / muting ) is always a less-cortisol engaging way to proceed than starting shit I know it's not that same dopamine hit, but you could splash some cold water on your face and listen to great music for that?
Please? 1) ALT-TEXT GRAPHICS. It's good internet behavior. Accessibility matters. 2) Please do not ask strangers online qs that (basic/non-AI) Google can answer. It's just rude to demand their time. 3) Check someone's profile before you decide you know their deal & start yelling at them? OK?
Another historical inaccuracy from Nolan—IMAX had not yet been invented in the Mycenaean period, so this is not the aspect ratio that people saw in! Smh
Utah has been very active in banning books of late, but some booksellers and organizations are fighting back by giving away copies of the banned books. Our ultimate goal it to make sure everyone has access to the books they need & there are many different ways to help do that.
Frustrated with book bans, these Utah bookstores now hand out free copies of titles pulled from public schools
The bookstores teamed up Utah’s LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce on the giveaways, which they say they won’t stop until the state stops banning books.

Truly shocking that this was published
Found a real “To Serve Man” situation on the sidewalk today
My now 15yo reads no less than 3 hours a day, has a few hundred followers for her one shot fan fics, is the go to editor for her peers for both creative and academic writing. Started a poetry club. Skipped school to go to the writers fest. The English teachers should just let her be.
Also a @shannonhale.bsky.social quote about just letting kids read whatever they want to read that basically entirely shaped my parenting
I'm out of the country for the 4th of July and it's been lovely to be away from fireworks. The noise, the wildfire risk, all of it feels so unkind to me. But I raise a hot dog to my country, the beauty and kindness that currently exists there and the hope that we can become better.
