If I knew somebody in my extended family who broke a small child’s collarbone I would be furious beyond words. Covering for them would be the furthest thing from my mind, no matter the political benefits of doing so. I guess this makes me woke? Unmanly? Low-T? Hard to keep up in 2026.

1.) This is 100% correct - Trump's attempt to use the prestige of America's WWII military to valorize himself and his illegal aggressive war are abhorrent. 2.) These AI slop images look nothing like Patton or MacArthur - and MacArthur demands his full 5 stars. bsky.app/profile/hele...
This guy never served. He faked an injury to avoid the draft. None of his children have served. He called those who did serve their country "suckers and losers." He skipped the centenary memorial for servicemen who died in WWI because it was drizzling. This is more than usually repellent.
This view of things is supported by a new analysis from @leahstokes.bsky.social. Where IRA moved fast enough to put benefits on the ground, it *did* shift things, including vote shares! It measurably improved Harris's vote totals in those areas. Just not enough for her to win!
Bidenomics Was More Successful Than People Think
Conventional wisdom holds that Joe Biden’s bet on climate investment was a bust. The data suggest otherwise.

I have for a long time wondered why Democrats didn’t try to repeal the Comstock Act: it’s a dangerous law, and one that a lot of people don’t believe still exists so a tough vote for Republicans.
3: Reviving Comstock would essentially ban telehealth abortion care federally. This isn’t a new fight: We’ve long reported on how the Comstock Act was quietly positioned as a back door to cobble abortion access nationwide.
This looting is pretty much what anybody could have expected from looking at Trump and the people around him
It seems really clear that by 2028, we're going to have an empty SPR, substantial munitions shortages, greater strategic challenges, a larger national debt and substantially higher bond rates which will massively constrain future administrations.
President Donald Trump’s administration has detained more than 50 spouses and parents of U.S. troops as it rolls back immigration protections for military families, an AP investigation has found.

One of the things I like about historians and demographers is how they remind us of large scale social choices that are often way beyond the policies discussed by elites at the time. People are plenty capable of apparently agreeing on the right way to live and then not living that way.
I said: “The 1950s family could not even reproduce itself for one generation. They couldn’t even convince their children that this was the right way to arrange their lives. So it failed immediately.”
Have fun imagining the response if a Democrat said that about anywhere rural.
Trump: "Look at the blue cities. What do they have in common? They're all dirty. They're filthy dirty. Their streets are dirty. Their streets smell. Their storefronts are broken. Their trees are all gross. Everything about the place is dirty. It's really all of them."

Interesting essay, helped me understand why I haven’t been able to successfully teach the story
"It’s this entire punitive mindset, and not merely Omelas itself, that the walkaways of the story’s title abandon..."
This sounds correct to me...with the addition that if the House doesn't go for it (or they do and Trump vetoes!) then you get a shutdown (bad for GOP) clearly the fault of Republicans (ditto).
stripping OMB of the ability to dole out grants is an enormous win, this nukes the SAVE act, it prohibits further ICE bailouts, adding a "no, really, trump can't break already on-the-books laws regarding elections the federal government doesn't run" clause would be both unnecessary and unproductive
!?! A Yale ‘survey found “extremely conservative” young people the most likely to agree with antisemitic sentiments such as “Jews in the United States have too much power.” A Manhattan Institute poll found that a full 25 percent of Republicans under 50 self-identified as having antisemitic views’
Republican Party veterans are concerned that the pipeline of young GOP talent is veering off course — and into terminally online extremism. “We have a generation of rabid, incompetent idiots,” one senior GOP congressional staffer said.
It’s time for some game theory
In doing research on the state legislative primaries in Missouri on Tuesday (article out Monday!), I was genuinely surprised at the amount of Republican candidates who oppose this amendment. Maybe because they realize that it's bad for conservative grassroots initiatives! bsky.app/profile/redi...
Stevens and El-Sayed have been highly visible in Michigan politics for years, talking about all sorts of issues from the auto industry to health care. Ask yourself: do you really think the whole race is really a proxy for Israel and Palestine? Will views on that issue decide it?
I know it’s a more fun story for the national press to cast the Michigan senate primary as exclusively a question of Israel and Palestine than accept other things are going on as well. I also wonder if it’s self-protective: if you don’t like the result, well, it’s just crazy Michigan politics.

Bordeaux, France, has now recorded more days above 40°C in 2026 alone than during the entire 105-year period from 1920 (when observations began) to 2025. This is deeply shocking.
Example. Stevens is not a milquetoast. But it’s hard to convince 2026 primary voters of that if your brand has been pragmatism/conpromise/kitchen table. Progressives have a history of picking fights with party establishment and the interest groups that reward centrism, so they are credible fighters.
Michiganders don’t put up with BS. Everywhere I go I talk to people who are fed up with Trump’s corruption, especially ICE’s abuse of power. It’s why I introduced the Hold ICE Accountable Act. We need to redirect their funding back to local communities.
