The ‘first lady of Chicago jazz,’ Geraldine de Haas dies at 91
Along with being a talented singer in her own right, she was a tireless advocate for jazz in Chicago. A tribute concert for Duke Ellington she helped put on in Grant Park in 1974 became the foundation...

Klobuchar: "I'm gonna live what I'm saying, and that means making sure that small towns can develop, that we keep our rural hospitals strong, and that's not gonna happen when my opponents -- all 3 of them -- have embraced Donald Trump's big beautiful bill that cut Medicaid!"

Beyond the reality-TV-style palace intrigue among the ridiculous personas of Donald Trump, Jeanine Pirro, and Doug Burgum is how hard the former defendants in the now-dismissed “vandalism” cases push for court-ordered consequences for the bogus prosecutions. talkingpointsmemo.com/morning-memo...

noted this in morning piece. like any winning candidate in a rough primary, AES needs to coalesce Ds behind him. Involves outreach, etc. But one of the best ways to consolidate Democrats is to land punches against Republicans. Not just going on the attack but showing that your punches are landing.
El-Sayed: "If all Mike Rogers got is that 'his name is Abdul, and my name is Mike,' you're gonna be surprised how many people are like, 'Yeah, but that's the Abdul who wants to bring down the price of my groceries and make sure I got healthcare. So yeah, I like Abdul over your Mike from Florida.'"
as noted yesterday, Trump has now come around to treating an Iranian toll system covering the Strait of Hormuz as a given. Hard to overstate the level of strategic failure. US started the war purely as a war of choice and ends up dramatically empowering Iran and given the Iranian govt big wins.
Reuters: Iran wants fees of 5%-7% of the price of cargo from ships using the strait; Oman wants 3%. "Making fees voluntary, at least nominally, could be a way out of the impasse, although an implied threat of Iranian attacks could mean shippers would be unlikely to risk transit without paying."
Nice oil tanker you got there. Sure would be a shame if it hit a mine, or if someone's drone just happened to fire a missile into it. Maybe you could pay this very reasonable "environmental fee" and we could see if that might make you feel safer. www.reuters.com/world/middle...

this wsj article is much better than the Times "showdown" article. but i resent the media gaslighting of this whole storyline, as though there was ever even the slightest question about why the pool bottom fell apart or that somehow Burgum had kept anyone in the dark. www.wsj.com/us-news/law/...
Pirro’s About-Face in Pool Case Followed Prosecutors’ Private Concerns
The U.S. attorney defended the dismissal of charges in a meeting with President Trump, but people close to the president say it is too early to say whether Pirro’s job is safe.

Whoever ends up winning the Democratic nomination for Senate in Michigan, I hope with little expectation that those who took seriously polls showing a rout for El-Sayed will think twice about relying on questionable and/or partisan polls.
