The Dogali monument, commemorating Italian forces who died in 1887 during the military campaign to expand Italian rule in the Red Sea region. The square has, thanks to the efforts of activist group Rete Yekatit 12-19 febbraio, been renamed to honour the Eritrean critic of colonialism Zerai Deres.
Was such a pleasure to present to a really engaged group of students at Roma Tre today on the sources for an emotional history of the Greater War in colonial spaces. Always great to think across colonial contexts with @camilleriana.bsky.social
