Defending Cofnas, who had written outrageously racist stuff for years (e.g., that in a meritocracy there would be next to no Black professors because they have lower IQs), is an odd hill to die on. Yet the 100-plus academics who signed this letter are clearly willing to die on it :/

Also worth noting how many of the signatories of the letter defending Cofnas call themselves evolutionary psychologists, including those with gatekeeping roles or large public platforms. Concerning to have the discipline represented by those who, at very best, misunderstand academic freedom

Delighted to share our latest research from the 23andMe Research Team, just published in @nature.com ! We looked at data from >27,000 participants to uncover how human genetics influences weight loss efficacy and side effects of GLP-1 medications like semaglutide. A short thread 🧵👇

Wrote a thread about #SEM in #RStats - if any fellow researchers would like to weigh in, you're very welcome to! 😊

So, a thread about how I have learned #SEM in #R as a #PhD student in #StatisticalGenetics. I’ve heard SEM be described as a “system of regressions”, but in addition to observed variables, we also have latent/unobserved variables. We can represent these variables in a path diagram (lavaan.org) :

Path diagram of a structural equation model with three latent variables called ind60, dem60, and dem65. ind60 has three indicators, dem60 and dem65 each have four. dem65 is regressed on dem60 and ind60. dem60 is regressed on ind60.

After 5 years of data collection, our WARN-D machine learning competition to forecast depression onset is now LIVE! We hope many of you will participate—we have incredibly rich data. If you share a single thing of my lab this year, please make it this competition. eiko-fried.com/warn-d-machi...

In the classical twin design, the assumption that the additive genetic (A) and shared environment (C) variance components are uncorrelated may not hold. If there is positive AC covariance, the C compo...
