The project team was privileged to visit the new excavation of the Viking settlement at Woodstown near Waterford at the invite of Neil Jackman, and to see the finds that are already coming to light from this Irish/Norwegian dig. Big ideas for the site, which would be such a boost to the region.
The first publication arising from the NorseMap Project is now available open-access via Boydell & Brewer. It looks at the recent use of the Vikings in and around the MAGA movement. openaccess.boydellandbrewercms.com?fileid=-47834 #Vikings #ERC #FrontierResearch
Nice to see NorseMap represented at the Future Humanities Institute Launch at UCC by this historical 'Viking' cat photo from the Library of Congress archives (even if we are not, in fact, a climate services project!) #medievalsky
Really cool new runic find from England (surely something for the second edition of my runes book...!)
🆕️ A ring with a runic inscription has been reported to the PAS. Dr @jaztherunologist.bsky.social told AWLOH: ‘This is an incredibly exciting find for runologists in Britain because it adds to our growing collection of runic inscriptions in the Anglo-Saxon Fuþorc'. open.substack.com/pub/historyh...

Wit, unker, git: The lost medieval pronouns of English intimacy
Tales of love and adventure from 1,000 years ago reveal a dazzling range of now-extinct English pronouns. They capture something unique about how people once thought about "two-ness".

My review of the new book 'Runes: A Concise History' is out in the latest edition of the @historytoday.com magazine! The review in brief: runes are great, so is this book, and it does a good job separating runic fact from runic fiction.
OUP have published the first chapter of my Runes book (on the earliest period of runic writing) open access until 19 Feb. Do have a look if you're interested! academic.oup.com/book/61598/c...
Delighted that my runes book has been published in the US, and is available on OUP's 'Oxford Academic' platform - European publishing date is in the new year! 🥳 academic.oup.com/book/61598
Enjoyed this workshop very much indeed - great hosts, and a high quality of papers on runes in vodeo games, branding, sub-cultures and much more.

Just for the removal of any doubt, this reference to Valhalla is a clarion call to neo-Nazis. From the director of the FBI.
