For Rice's associate professor, Dr. Sylvia Dee, understanding Earth’s past is the key to preparing for its future. By combining #ClimateModels with centuries-old natural records, her work uncovers how rainfall, temperatures and #ExtremeWeather are shifting in a warming world.

Her lab also focuses on human health impacts from severe weather, especially extreme heat (a big problem in Houston). A: One of my favorite things about being an EEPS major was the field trips. It was cool having the opportunity to learn geology in the real world, but it was also a lot of fun to play word games with classmates in our down time instead of doing homework.

Highlights include Igneous is Bliss or shows I stage managed, but I've also really enjoyed just being an audience member for all the creative things Rice students put on.

Q: What are your post-graduation plans? A: I will be starting a PhD in Geology at the University of Florida. My advisor will be EEPS alumna Dr. Shuo Ding!
