Furrydelphia stays winning. No AI or Dropshipping in the DD I noticed the Dealers Den felt like it had way more original and unique stuff compared to other cons
Cursed words: "AI dog podcast." Here's a juxtaposition. The SF Bay Area is ground zero for shoveling billions into a furnace for AI. I'm there in a short walk from one of the biggest players in a scandal in the pet shelter system. How does AI hurt real dogs? 1/5
New dispatch from Hell:
Good show tonight in Oakland, and I'm told there is a secret furry element 🤫
Well, actually, kinda, yeah, close to what happened. It's not for nothing that Jack Dorsey, who started the place and was on its board, basically ran away when the trans folks and furries scared off all the crypto bros he assumed would be the natural demographic here (they went to Nostr instead).
Bluesky often seems like a project run by tech people who place great value on its architectural differences from Twitter, which nobody cares about, while not understanding how they walked ass-backwards into having a userbase (whomst they fear and despise)
This has been a gripe of mine for a long time. I wish it was more broadly understood that these euphemisms have nothing to do with "sensitivity" and everything to do with avoiding increasingly-draconian online censorship. bsky.app/profile/finl...
I understand the hate for algospeak ("unalive" etc.) but *please* direct your anger towards the right target: The platforms who made it necessary. I see so many people talk about algospeak like its a cutesy slang and get mad at people for using it Its literally how folks talk to avoid censorship

A lot of people would be pro diarrhea if it only struck MAGAs. Then there would be only 3 kinds of people: ordinary people, ex MAGAs, and people too stuck in the bathroom to vote.
The actual harsh truth about MAHA is that it is an anti-vaxx, anti-science, pro-diarrhea conspiracy movement. It cloaks its arguments in abstractions about "big pharma" and "free speech" to generate *the exact op-ed The Atlantic keeps publishing*. Movements like this need to be fought, not placated.

i went to a Luddite festival in NYC that was organized entirely off social media to prove you don’t need captive tech platforms (yes, including this one!) to hang out and have a good time. @404media.co 📵
Being a Luddite Is Fun Again
As tech backlash hits the mainstream, the ‘Summer of Ludd’ proves we don’t need social media to hang out and have a good time.

Interesting take. I ditched Twitter for being toxic, and prefer a clunky old fashioned blog, where nobody else mediates, and it isn't driven by views or ads or anything but fuck-it, let's say what isn't being said. There's other problems with "we run our thing" but what that needs is intention.
There is significant benefit to interacting with the fandom through intentional, direct activity rather than passive doomscrolling and retweets. Give this a listen. Go to a local meet. And make a FurAffinity account, too.
i love how centrists continue to do this thing where they say “if DSA becomes more front and center in the party, republicans will run on that!” as if the right doesn’t just say absolutely anything on and run on shit like peanut the squirrel or litterboxes in school bathrooms
Last year, KQED aired an episode of the Close All Tabs podcast featuring @changa.gay and me: How the Furry Fandom Says Goodbye. A new update of the episode went live this morning, with an entirely new intro and outro. www.kqed.org/news/1209208...
How the Furry Fandom Says Goodbye (Reload) | KQED
Anthrocon, the largest gathering of furries in the world, just celebrated its 20th anniversary in July — so we’re re-airing one of our favorite episodes yet. Furries are a community often known for we...

When you've defeated the cone they put you in the Hannibal Lector
Fresh info about investigation into leader corruption that crosses multiple furry conventions.
Two updates about #MephitZooGate. (1) One of the conventions involved, Anthroverse, was supposed to launch soon. Instead they updated their site and removed their hotel. Now they're seeking a new location. (2) I just received messages claiming a protest is planned at Mephit Furmeet.
In the extra bit, we discuss Ivanhoe and Robin of Sherwood. How Brian Bedford's dulcet tones hid a suprisingly subversive message in Disney's Robin Hood. And how that film was key to the rise of furry culture. Oh, and @oldenoughtosay.com sets fire to my house. Sub here: untitled-history.com /end
Ever wonder how furry conventions decide when to ban someone? I wrote a blog post that explains how the process works. www.dmuth.org/so-you-think...

A practical guide to reporting safety concerns at conventions: what evidence helps, what doesn't, and why convention ban decisions are more complicated than many people realize.

As part of my "Furry History" panel at @anthrocon.org ... there is a section about media / "what would you see on the TV in a furry room party." I promised folks I would post these slides after the con. To grab attention, we first open with the kind of stuff you might see in a furry party today...
