i hate that AI companies have muddied the word "generative" Generative art: procedural art created using a *system of mathematical rules designed intentionally* by the artist. AI-generated: created by automated systems (LLMs) using opaque, extractive processes unknown to both the user and viewer.

there's an old abandoned video store in my neighborhood with faded posters for Batman Forever and White Chicks in the window that look like they've been untouched for 20+ years. and everytime i walk past it i start fantasizing about opening a video store.

i doubt i'm the first to note this, but the right losing their minds over Ms. Rachel is such a perfect mask-off moment because it reveals the same thing as the "debate" over Trans kids - the fact that some people view children as people, and others view them as their property.

yes, actually I do think AI-use/adoption is a fundamental declaration of what you value and what you don't and its really silly to believe that such declarations won't be noticed by those around you

“…the same mechanisms that drive people to grow wary of — and hostile toward — friends, co-workers and family members with different political beliefs are beginning to shape attitudes toward AI.”

thanks for reading my articles, y’all 🫶 i want to continue covering the weirdest/coolest corners of the tech backlash / post-internet beat, but i need your support. please consider throwing me a few coins: ko-fi.com/janusrose v_nm0 - @ janusrose pic unrelated, but in another sense very related

i went to a Luddite festival in NYC that was organized entirely off social media to prove you don’t need captive tech platforms (yes, including this one!) to hang out and have a good time. @404media.co 📵

- horrifying news event occurs - pissbrain CEO is given media platform, says something like "we could prevent this by implanting israeli drones directly in your anus" as tech journalist nods along - VCs read article, throw money at it - tech is rolled out against the wishes of any sane individual

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com · last wk.

Some schools in Florida, Georgia and Colorado will be equipped with drones this year that can go through halls, smash windows and pepper-spray active shooters if teachers report a threat. The program follows a wave of high-tech campus security spending. https://wapo.st/4gVNMXn

tech companies are going to respond to the growing anti-tech backlash by re-branding their AI pervert glasses & wearable surveillance tech as "helping you get off your phone and back to real life" - please quote this post when it becomes clear that i was correct

Another excellent piece from @janus.bsky.social . This shit gives me hope that we may yet still transcend the trap of slacktivism, that since Occupy we've learned our lessons about disseminating awareness without further entrenching power of the major tech platforms. www.404media.co/luddite-even...

Being a Luddite Is Fun Again

As tech backlash hits the mainstream, the ‘Summer of Ludd’ proves we don’t need social media to hang out and have a good time.

“This “privacy for me, surveillance for thee” attitude feels like a perfect encapsulation of the future we’re already living in: one where wealthy elites can afford privacy, while the rest of us are forced to live in a corporate surveillance panopticon.” www.ms.now/opinion/tayl...

Opinion | Taylor Swift was able to buy her privacy at MSG. What about the rest of us?

Reports that Madison Square Garden temporarily shut off its facial recognition system for Swift’s wedding expose a glaring problem with how the elite wield and control mass surveillance.

LLM's especially appeal to middle managers because their entire job consists of transferring meaningless bullshit from above to below and vice versa. They don't realize it literally makes them obsolete, because if they were able to think that they wouldn't be middle managers.
