Birds, books, bagels & beers. Elementary school teacher in Oregon

Astraea, by Kate Kruimink Gorgeous, poetic historical fiction about a 19th century convict ship, carrying women and children to a penal colony. Perfect novella about liminal space, patriarchy and a little known history - quiet, atmospheric, yet somehow harrowing - I could not put it down. #booksky

Everyone should read Hellions by Julia Elliott, out next month from @tinhouse.bsky.social (thanks for an earlier copy!) 11 short stories, each as engaging, imaginative and perfectly unexpected as the last. Elliott has an incredible way of shifting from the mundane to the magical. I loved this.

Please read Dengue Boy. This is my favorite kind of absurdism: fast-paced, entertaining and highly imaginative. Things spiral out of control, it's hellish and exuberant, then everything comes crashing back together in a triumphant, trippy apocalypse of an ending. #booksky #dengueboy

Bibliophobia, by Sarah Chihaya  An intimate, emotional, thought-provoking memoir about books and mental health. I was completely immersed in her world of reading, rereading, & unreading all the narratives that created, dismantled & restored her sense of self and her place in the world. Great read!
