You don't make countercultural art only in hopes of changing politics (though that's a fine aim), you make countercultural art so that there's a vibrant, appealing and beautiful alternative culture for people to participate in and find meaning within.

This 100% except it's nothing new. Production has been increasingly divorced from actual needs of consumers since the 1920s thanks to Edward Bernays. I think it's just harder to notice the "needs that are constructed by advertising" that around at our birth vs. the ones created in our lifespan.

My crankiest belief is that we are now being sold on solutions to problems which only exist because we've let others convince us they exist. That is what "innovation" seems to be in 2025. There's a level of introspection that's just not happening these days re: what actually needs to bother us.

The deep irony of course being that X was one of the most most significant tools of propaganda last year. Not enough people talking about "The Art of The Surge" as highly produced, pure, unadulterated propagandistic TV that co-opts documentary aesthetics to create the appearance of objectivity.

My favorite little character trope in tv and film is when they pour a ridiculous amount of sugar in their coffee. You're like "Oh... this guy's got personality... He's just a little bit *unhinged*"

Maybe the clearest feature of AI writing is just how mind-numbingly boring it is (especially stylistically). Which has this weird side-effect where now I just assume everything boring was written by an AI.
