Environmental groups say there’s a reason why the federal government quietly released its latest climate report, which finds that average temperatures in Canada are set to go up by at least 3.5 C by the end of the century.
Carney government accused of burying climate report warning of worsening impacts
The report, which analyzes the impacts of climate change in Canada, was posted to a government website with no fanfare on Thursday evening ahead of the Labour Day long weekend.

Thanks! I linked to this excellent thread unpacking that whole business.
Today you're going to see a lot of tributes and assessments of Gloria Steinem (I thought this one very good: www.thecut.com/article/glor...). You'll also see some people raising her involvement with the CIA, and others ignore it. (That obit doesn't even mentioned it.) What was that about?
A great piece overall but I also sent it to a bunch of friends today for the PS part about all the "GLORIA WAS A CIA SPOOK" which is one of the wildest examples in recent memory of bots figuring out exactly how to derail conversations on the left.
Wrote a thing about Gloria Steinem and how profoundly feminism changed and continues to change the world.
A police officer in Chatham was identified by my grandmother (a Holocaust survivor) as a former SS officer. He got to live to old age and everything. I'm sure there's plenty of stories like that one in it.
“Canadians have a right to know the truth about not only Canada’s actions but the U.S.’s covert efforts to sneak ex-Nazis into Canada after the Second World War.”
Seems very 👀 to quietly dump this news before a long weekend. Is it because they know that every public consultation so far has shown that Canadians are distrusting of AI, want fewer chat bots and more humans to pick up the phone, etc.? That's my guess.

A major side effect of ageism is losing health care workers to the for-profit world of aesthetics. My latest example is that a derm referred me to a clinic for light treatment for a medical issue. Wait time: 2 months. Friend called for *same procedure* but for anti-aging. Wait time? 3 days.
Ottawa! The annual "Take Back the Night" march is happening Thursday, September 17th starting at 6pm at Minto Park (on Elgin at Gilmour) It's a municipal election year, so all the more reason to come out & demand a safer city free of gender-based violence ✊🏻 Make a sign & come make some noise! 📣

I know they released this in time to mark the 25th anniversary of 9/11 but it sure does feel like a very timely reminder that we do not deserve what America is doing to us right now.

I got death threats for tweeting out that Kobe was a rapist when he died. I wrote a whole damn book about my ex when he died. I think we absolutely can speak ill of the dead. But there's difference between good faith critique & misogynists just wanting to capitalize on a moment to shit on feminism
thinking about the time my dad couldn't remember the phrase Jock Jams so he said 'you know, the one that's all music a guy would play to get himself jazzed up to assassinate the president. whole CD of it. what's that called again'
Gloria Steinem died with fewer rights than she had during her lifetime. That fact needs to be front and centre of every media report, every dedication, every discussion of her death.
Gloria Steinem. My God, what a loss. 💔 A full life dedicated to women's rights. Her fingerprints across so many victories. She is needed now more than ever and we must do everything we can to continue her legacy. I could never read the dedication of her memoir without weeping. I mean, oooof 😭
Climate doomers 🤝 Climate deniers
Same story, but CBC chooses a headline that actually misrepresents the study and frames climate change as a now irreversible problem. The actual study, as AP notes, describes going over 1.5C and how to get back under that threshold.
Yes! Great point! I actually own a Garmin GPS that just plugs into the lighter. It's handy for me since I don't have a car in the winter & have to rent a lot of cars. Saves me having to turn my GPS on & risk being stalked & also saves me having to pay the rental company fee for in-car GPS access.
Also, these are still being made. They don't need to connect out to work:

Lots of people responding to this by accepting the frame, that he's surprised to find himself in this position and genuinely remorseful about trump. In reality he's a serial media manipulator and the whole Come To Jesus act and eating crow on TV is his way into a career here now he's been deported.

I am an incredibly sex+ person - both in my personal belief system and in my approach to violence prevention work. I've literally taught consent in kink spaces. But we really gotta address the mainstreaming of "choking" because it's really dangerous & more & more often seen as "normal" by youth.

"Why are the kids all addicted to sports gambling & social media? Why are people so lonely these days? Why can't we build community anymore?" Because we've eliminated free 3rd spaces, everything's expensive, only place to hang is a $7 for-a-coffee shop & we can't even sit on a goddamn park bench.

A lack of seating areas (and public toilets!) is a direct result of hating the unhoused. We live with hostile architecture because leaders refuse to address the homelessness & toxic drug supply. They'd rather just make public spaces less safe & welcoming for everyone. It's bullshit.

Including operating costs over 40 years without accounting for revenue is just weird. They say in the article they expect revenue to cover expenses. Why not just stick to capital costs, which the story acknowledges are within the stated band (for now).
To me it seems the height of digital self-regard, entitlement and solipsism to believe every person who follows you sees everything you post, just as it also seems the height of digital self-regard, entitlement and solipsism to believe that everything everyone else posts is solely about or for you.
