"In 2025 millions of Canadians rallied behind what they took to be a promise of renewed economic sovereignty and progressive nation-building. Over the past year, the government they elected has effectively delivered the exact opposite." #cdnpoli

Mark Carney promised to take on Donald Trump. He’s done anything but

While Prime Minister Mark Carney said he be “Elbows up” to Trump, his policy choices have essentially aligned Canada with America.

I had an idea years ago of creating a (paid) labour reporting internship to help students gain experience doing labour reporting Emma was our first labour intern and I was so proud we could later hire her as full-time labour reporter Please follow @emmaarkell.bsky.social and support her journalism

Charlie, the MAGA threat is coming from WITHIN Canada and the Prime Minister's Office as they capitulate to Trump on basically everything. And it's not just NATO: Carney supports the Golden Dome and is spending more raw dollars in the American military industrial complex than before.

The "let's quit NATO" faction have their day. I didn't have much time for them when they mobbed the microphones at NDP conventions. I have less time for these squabbles now as Canada faces an unprecedented threat to our sovereignty. My focus remains on rallying Canadians against the MAGA threat.

Anything, and I mean anything, Carney says or does will be rationalized. He can use right-wing rhetoric and institute policy indistinguishable from Poilievre's and someone will show up to defend it. Every single time. I've never seen anything like this in my lifetime.

You don’t have to be anti-immigrant to recognize basic economics. Adding people faster than we can build homes, expand infrastructure, and provide services drives up costs and strains supply. Sustainable immigration requires sustainable growth.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by my ice cream social in Capilano last night. At a time when so many people are worried about the rising cost of living and threats to our economy, there is something powerful about gathering with your neighbours on a sunny evening and sharing an ice cream. 🧡🍦🧡

1/ More than 99% of CUPE cabin crew workers at WestJet voted in favour of a strike mandate. We've seen what Mark Carney does when workers legally exercise their rights. The Liberals have used Section 107 multiple times to stamp out worker power, forcing them back to work without a fair contract.

Don Davies@donvdavies.bsky.social · 7d ago

Today, my colleague @leahgazan.bsky.social and I wrote a letter calling on the Minister of Jobs, @pattyhajdu.bsky.social, to refrain from violating WestJet workers’ right to strike.

1/ This is the third time in six months that Benjamin Netanyahu has flown through Canadian airspace. Contrary to the GAC spokesperson’s claim, he does not have the freedom to make that decision. Foreign leaders are required to seek permission before doing so. www.cbc.ca/news/politic...

Just like at Air Canada, WestJet is continuing to force unpaid work on its cabin crew, in a sector made of mostly of women. Workers have been clear that they’ve had enough, with over 99% of CUPE 8125’s membership voting in favour of a strike. (1/4)

Letter from NDP MPs Don Davies and Leah Gazan calling on the Liberal Minister of Jobs and Families to respect CUPE workers' Constitutional rights and refrain from forcing an end to their strike at WestJet. Bild

Who does Charlie think he is serving here? I don't want Palantir in our military - a literal tool tested in genocide - and investing in American military industry helps them, not us. If you want to be a Liberal, go ahead but leave the NDP to the people who have been a part of its revitalization.

Canada is in a deadly serious moment unlike anything we have seen in a century. We need political leaders to offer a vision of how respond to the threat while offering ways that our nation can move forward. Claiming that the PM's priority is supporting Trump's war machine is a total falsehood.

Charlie, this email from the NDP is very specifically taking aim at a Liberal government proposal that will increase Canada's level of military integration with the United States. Govt plans for increased military spending will do that too. What exactly do you take issue with here?

“Stating that we need to get rid of all the Indigenous people in northern remote communities and bring them to the south as a way forth. Particularly because he is now appointed in one of the most senior roles as his new principal secretary,” said Gazan.

Carney’s pick for advisor, Scott Gilmore raising eyebrows

Earlier this month, a number of media sources reported Scott Gilmore would soon be moved into the role of Carneys' principal advisor.

The Shopify CEO saying rich people deserve more votes didn't come out of nowhere. It's rooted in the idea that the rich trickle down wisdom to the unwashed masses. A direct intellectual line between the Carney Capital Gains/Yacht tax cuts to 'rich people deserve more votes'
