An avid fan of Sci-fi, Fantasy, Horror and other weird crap.

Also - please join me if you will in flooding Bluesky with Canadian culture. Music, art, film, TV. Let’s show the vibrancy of this place I’m proud to call home.

Been going to Canada's Wonderland with a seasons pass the past couple of months. Only real down point has been the soggy fries. Every bit of food I've had has been alright enough except them. Even the bits you'd expect to be crispy are a chewy limp.

I would ask the pro athletes what they think of any trans athletes. Odds are most wouldn't give a crap why this hubbub is being raised. Even questioning the philosophy behind the bans. If it wasn't for the idea of being blacklisted from their leagues, I suspect most would be cool over them playing

I believe there is no greater generational constant in USA than the high profile snake oil salesman. I bet historians can document trajectory changes in USA purely based on phenomena & gold rushes engineered by snake oil salesmen. ‘I invented a genie’ guy may be their crowning achievement though.

“What we need to explain to the world: Number one, we are close to creating a genie that can grant any wish. Number two, we are going to make sure that our first wishes broadly benefit humanity” - Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI — This is definitely the opposite of Anthropic’s AI kills all jobs pitch.

It's a delivery day on my end, but both drivers decided to not deliver. So staying home for them was an absolute bust. As cheap as they can be, it's very hit or miss on non-Canada Post delivery services. This is why the posties here were on strike against casual delivery drivers.

Oh, I went to see that new Evil Dead Burns. It's so damn unrelenting in its atmosphere of dread from start to finish. From the cold open exploring the McGuffin of the iteration, to the small tease we see at the end. There is a mid and post-credits scene to this one as an FYI

I'm sorta bummed that Toronto's upcoming municipal election is being earmarked as a two candidates race this early. Our incumbent mayor and what I can best describe as a weiner. The guy flip flops so hard it's painful watching him act like he wasn't responsible. We need to want more in a mayor.

Oh yeah, went to see Supergirl twice somehow. Not amazing, but still fun enough I enjoyed how after a slightly questionable cameo. They follow up with an exploration over WHY she was like that, while setting her up to play differently from Clark. Also Mamoa gets to have fun doing Lobo. Twas great.

So I've been slowly reading through the Dungeon Crawler Carl books. I'm currently working my way through book seven/floor nine. While not the most high-brow, it's damn fun. Just when you think you've got a nice, quiet moment of introspection, the damn cat gets up to something. #goddamnitdonut

Went to go see the Digital Circus: The Final Act screening last night. It was a very wholesome and nice finale for things. There will be some really good discourse going on when the episode gets uploaded to YouTube later this month.

The thing about AI that is simple enough to understand is that it's peak Silicon Valley. Make a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. The special add-on for this one is the extra problems that it leaves people with. Like the idea that their bot is an actual person, or ravaging the job market.

Anime North is over yet again for the year 😔 Had a decent amount of fun with some quite insightful panels. Both as an attendee and panelist. Bit of a bummer about some missed contacts, events and merch. That's to be expected sadly. Didn't get to wear my ita bag. So I thought I'd share anyways.

Ended up checking out the back half of the neurodivergence in anime panel after finishing up with the One Piece panel. I got a good number of things to look up along with some very reassuring stories and experiences. AN26

What I'm finding a little scary is the lack of media coverage of the proposed AI data centers planned in Ontario. If any of the horror stories I've heard from rural places in the States are half true. It should be something we're all aware of. Watch politicians act like we're NIMBYs over it...
