Does anyone else get off the plane, use the restroom in the airport terminal, fail to trigger the motion sensor faucet and soap dispenser, and immediately think 'this is it, this is how I found out the plane crashed and I'm a ghost.'

"This story is about Female Rage, where a woman gets angry over being horribly mistreated and abused, but eventually learns to forgive and move on and be a nurturing kind soul instead of vengeful, which would be masculine and unbecoming---" Shut up. Let women rip out their abuser's spines.

Like I don’t dig a trend toward witch hunts, toward picking out every em dash and “not X but Y”, that shit sucks. But also, people should be ashamed to admit to using this technology in writing. It should be something done in cringing secret, in terror of being found out

I am logged on for 2 hours to say I am appalled by what I read in the HWA newsletter. There are AI witch hunts ongoing where writers are being accused of using that garbage tech with no evidence. Telling ppl who use AI proudly to get out is not gatekeeping. Call out the writers and companies.

If you use AI to write your story or your music, you’re a loser. I don’t have time for anything you’ve presented because you didn’t have time to actually work at being creative. If that makes me an asshole, I’ll be that. It’s not the first time I’ve been called an asshole, and it won’t be the last.

Like okay look Hypothetically If I was a member of the board of an organization, I would not use that organization's newsletter to share my personal views. I work for a tech company that makes AI tooling. I do not publish my personal views about AI use in art on the company's marketing blog.

If that were my op-Ed in the HWA, I would be really, really embarrassed. Any authors who follow me (bc I block the bad ones) —don’t you DARE ever have imposter syndrome again. Ever. Or else I’ll crawl through your window, give you a lil kiss on the noggin, and whisper “stop it” in your ear.

They point out in each newsletter that the opinions in the op-ed section don't represent the organization or its members ... but how are the op-eds selected? Is there a member raffle? A magic 8-ball? Does Simon say? Why is the org sending out something that's perspective would destroy the org?

Ancestors, looking down: Our exalted daughter sleeps among the clouds! Her palace towers over that of the gods! Me, trying to charge my phone in a 17th floor hotel room: ugh only one of the 6 outlets next to the bed works for my charger ugh fuck ugh FUCK

And! Even if you somehow sell every single book you write without having to plan anything in advance, if you ever want to go to a workshop or get an agent or anything like that, you're going to have to learn to write a synopsis! It's hard to do this! It's worth learning how to do it well!

I always bring this up when I teach 'How I, A Committed Exploratory Writer, Taught Myself How To Outline' Even if you are the world's pantsiest pantser, if you sell on proposal you WILL have to give people SOMETHING that resembles an outline! I am sorry! They will ask!
