Indie #boardgame studio from #Berlin

🌞 Curious what's going on with #TowersOfTheSun? Here's the first of 2 bigger March dev updates from the team. Right now, we're specifically focused on looking through the proposed changes to the game from @allplay.bsky.social for their upcoming version. Exciting stuff for us at the studio! 🤩

Friday saw us wrapping up the week by diving into our second round review of Allplay's development changes on #TowersOfTheSun...

Despite being a publisher, we are very interested in hearing more about this, as we continue our transition to more of a design-driven studio rather than a market-driven business.

In fact @tonytran.bsky.social and I have been exploring ways to create spaces for designers to showcase their non-commercial games, to offer an alternative "endpoint" to their design other than "selling out to the record company."

🐉 #DragonEyes, one of our upcoming games, is going through its final development, at a stage where the product design is becoming as much of a focus as the gameplay. If you're interested to learn more, stay tuned, we'll be revamping and opening up our playtest group quite soon!

I'm updating our TTS mod for #DragonEyes to begin locking in the component list for quoting. Got the stones to be about the same shape as those in the designer prototype (similar to Mancala stones) and began applying our first draft of thematic colors.

Playtesting for one of our newest prototypes, Dragon Eyes, by Tim Bosje, continues! If you're interested to try a lightweight, push your luck, medieval tavern game, reply in the comments. We're currently preparing an online test kit to play with folks in Q1 2026. #DragonEyes

#Brettspiel Top 100 🎲 Platz 63: #SeizeTheBean Ein sehr cooler Deckbuilder / Tableaubuilder in dem wir ein Cafè betreiben und unsere Gäste bestmöglich bedienen wollen. Hab viel Liebe dafür weil so liebevoll gemacht. Nicht perfekt aber ein Projekt für das Crowdfounding eigentlich gedacht war. ☕️🍩

In case you missed it in the run up to SPIEL, we shared an October Studio Update last month over on BGG. It covered the launch of our new webstore, updates on our upcoming games, and a heads up that we’ll be at Spellenspektakel this weekend. 🧵1/3

We'd be curious to know if any pubs out there aren't using the Adobe Cloud suite and if so how has the interaction with factories been using other, potentially free layout software?

Another question for #boardgame designers and publishers around! 🎲✂️ What's your preferred software for writing up and designing the instruction manual? I'm using Adobe Illustrator at the moment, and it's going ok, but I wonder if there are better options, especially when reorganizing the content.

We are a small publisher / two people and we would never take the stance that gen AI tools would help us. We second this notion that if you are trying to pay artists, you'll find a way, if what you're making has an audience. People want human-made art!

I’ve seen people defend its usage because ‘it helps small publishers & designers’. But most board game studios are really small (handful of people), and they manage to pay their artists, so I don’t think there’s any real excuse to be this sloppy and infringe on other’s work.

As an avid supporter of print-and-play roll-and-write #BoardGames, I'm dismayed by the increase of "AI art" used by the designers. This is what I sent to a designer today. So bummed, the game looks good. But there are lots of good games coming out and I'll toss my $ at those not using AI "art".

Congrats on the launch of Moonlight! The game looks amazing mechanically. I sincerely hope in the future you'll reconsider using generative AI. I understand you're an independent operator and art costs seem like a frustrating expense. But regardless of the post AI human touch and the check that it doesn't outright copy existing art, both the sourcing the AI system uses and the environmental impact of those systems are really awful. I know you know this and don't want to hear from a stranger (though I am a backer of previous work) but I would love to be able to support your work in the future. All the best.

Happy holidays to everyone in our community! We are very thankful for all the support and encouragement over the years. The last 2 have been especially transformative for us, and we're excited to share some news with everyone in the new year. 1/3
