Alex Pretti "used to tell people off when they made sexist comments to female physicians. He bought me coffee when I had a really bad day as an intern...I laughed alongside him daily. He made a point to teach medical residents without judgement, but with a smile on his face and a joke."

Though California’s Imperial Valley might offer the world’s highest sugar beet tonnages, a mixture of lower production costs, modernized processing plants, and federal sugar policies have pushed the crop toward the upper Midwest. Contributor @cetracey.bsky.social reports. ⬇️

TN07 is a story about gerrymandering: the GOP cracked Nashville into 3 districts when it redrew the 2022 map, destroying the Dem seat there. Fast-forward: a section of Nashville, which just 5 years ago had a Dem representative, is now voting Dem by huge margins but it's been designed to not matter.

🧵 I know everyone wants to believe that ICE is just a bunch of J6ers under Trump, but let's be clear about something: ICE has always been like this. Denying that and pushing the idea that they're only like this because of Trump is dangerous. Assuming this leaves us in a place where we simply...

What is the “working class”? They’re not the burly white men that white male pundits think they are “The working class—defined as workers without a four-year college degree—makes up almost two-thirds of the workforce and is more racially and ethnically diverse than the college-educated workforce.”

A pie chart that breaks down working class workers by labor sector. 78% are in the Service Industry.

There's a lot to unpack, digest and consider here, though some of the solutions they suggest seem unworkable. But it's striking to me that they dismiss @aoc.bsky.social as "AOC at the Met gala," when she is actually an example of a working-class candidate with great communication skills who wins.

For those interested in agriculture, farm labor, civil rights, the border, etc. I had the pleasure of interviewing Harrington for my research earlier this spring. Fascinating guy who’s done so much good for countless people. 🗃️
