#Denebtober ~ Deneb update! Lines and colors! But we're only halfway there!

10/07/2026

Deneb flying on her broom from Oct. 8th 2023 -- updated three years later to the day! That's magical enough -- but then Deneb herself looks much sharper, clearer and well rendered. Her face is elegant and her body is robust; while more detailing and corrections await, the flat color and linework image is already impressive. Look forward to more!

#Denebtober ~ The wives have a plan for their next witchmoot celebration. Clothing optional, apparently.

#Denebtober needs more Tilde. New art is long overdue! Last Halloween's doodle is a good place to start.

#Denebtober has seen a bunch of newcomers already! Ribbon welcomes you!

crybringer @crybringer.bsky.social · 5d ago

#Denebtober. Ribbon.

09/10/2024
DENEB RIBBON <3

A 2024 sketch of the witch Ribbon, looking up at the viewer from below. A standee-styled image, Ribbon stands on a patch of grass, brandishing her broom and cheekily flicking her tongue stud. She's dressed in her namesake black ribbons from her choker, to her twintails, to her barely-there bikini & skirt combo. Her shoes are trussed in the same ribbons, alongside thigh and bicep ties. Ribbon is heavily scared across her shoulders, ribs and torso, and inner thighs, but does nothing to take away her charm.

#Denebtober -- A(n actually) little Marigold is fine too.

04~05/2026
MINI MARI

A couple of cute sketches of a chibi-fied Marigold. In color, she looks pleased with herself in casting a strange spell to make her a fifth of her regular size. In black and white, a dozing Deneb is yelled at by her now *actually* little sister.

crybringer @crybringer.bsky.social · 7d ago

#Denebtober almost got lost in the dark forest. Luckily, Marigold was there...

#Denebtober -- a revised pic coming soon!

"DENEB, YOU SHOWOFF (WIP)"
A cut of an updated version of the previous post: Deneb sails through the air, seated on her broom backwards. The revised and corrected figure looks more mature, while the background promises a swooping aerial view. The standalone red background will be a variation with the final piece...

#Denebtober begins! Let's revisit an old fave and put a new spin on it?

10/08/2023 DENEB
Deneb the witch, showing off on her broom as she rides backwards, showing off her insanely long legs and sleek features. While the attitude is signature Deneb, three years means a lot more can be done with the half-done picture.

If you are coming to New York for #nycc and have extra 🕰️, I BEG you to see the "Art of Manga" show at @brooklynmuseum.org. If you are a comics/manga fan, seeing Takahashi, Taniguchi and Oda originals in person will be life changing. If you still don't quite "get" manga it will explain everything.

It’s the first and I want to remind y’all we’re in the worst economy I’ve experienced as an adult. So, so many people are out of work & have been for a while. It’s the worst time to be job hunting. So if you see a GFM, mutual aid request or plea for help?

I think twitter's bloated bot numbers have done collective psychic damage to the internet to make you believe that anything under 300k likes is an abject failure. If you can convince maybe 300 people to give you $5 a month to cover rent, you're automatically one of the most successful creators alive

Cannot forget Kageko! I also commissioned @crybringer.bsky.social to do this adorable "spooky" image of Kageko, a reality-warping shadow fox nogitsune. I'll probably build her as a seneschal witch in #Pathfinder2e #ocart #oc #ttrpg

Black and white artwork by @crybringer.bsky.social
A thigh-up illustration of Kageko, a shadow nogitsune who wears a revealing sorcerer gown and a hooded shroud. With her shadowy tails behind her, Kageko raises her hands up in attempt to look spooky and powerful, but she ends up just looking adorable instead.

I had a LOT of fun putting these together! Me & drawing kitsune characters? A good time, guaranteed.

I commissioned @crybringer.bsky.social to do these amazing illustrations of my kitsune PF2 OCs: Sayuki the fan dancer and Sumiko the calligraphy mage. #ocart #oc #ttrpg #pathfinder2e

Black and white artwork by @crybringer.bsky.social
A thigh-up illustration of Sayuki Kosan, a kitsune fan dancer. She carries large fans in each hand.

A trio of fierce kitsune, courtesy of @garrick.rhetoricstudios.com -- the shady Kageko (l.), wild Sumiko (r.) and dazzling Sayuki (middle) came together in this pic -- and their creator got awesome individual #commission pieces!

09/04/2026
KAGEKO, SAYUKI & SUMIKO
A trio of kitsune characters -- Kageko shaded darkly, conjuring foxfire magics; Sumiko brandishing a giant inkbrush, and Sayuki in the center with giant odori fans, daring the viewer. All drawn in black-and-white, but each shaded distinctly, this was an alternate to a one-by-one request.

#Sketch #Commission series, starring @acidxshark.bsky.social 's party of adventurers, Tira, Magmell, Zadak and Xora! Check the alt text for details!

08/27/26 TIRA MASCA
An action-packed sketch of a axe-wielding adventuring anthro, Tira.
She winds up a powerful swing off her left shoulder, eyes sharp and gritting her teeth to put down whoever's unlucky enough to be standing in front. Strong from head to to, Tira is dressed in light, athletic gear w/ a torn capelet to top it off. Drawn in black & white, this is the first in a series of sketch comms for @acidxshark.

09/02/26
MAGMELL & ZADAK
The larger anthro Magmell teases their partner, the feisty looking Zadak. Both are drawn in b&w, with Magmell's dark hair and sharp gauntlet weapons standing out, amid their showy halter top and thong w/ chaps. Zadak is even racier in a dancer-like bikini outfit, vs. their prominent horns, ears, stinger tail and sharp claws. Whatever Magmell's saying, Zadak's not here for it.

09/14/26
XORA
Finishing the set, is the oddest of the bunch -- Xora, who looks jolly and inviting as she brandishes a jar with what looks like a taxidermy(?!) heart and a certain-someone's name on it... She's a light toned dragon-kin anthro with long ears, curved horns and a curvy shape, as well as hair and tail tuft. What adventures are in store for these four? Follow @acidxshark and find out!

GDT's reddit AMA spitting fire www.reddit.com/r/movies/com...

reddit comment:

Hello! Did you intend the ending of Pan’s labyrinth to be real or in Ofelia’s mind?

Guillermo Del Toro's reply:

My interpretation, and it's exclusively mine, is that it's real.

Because there's two things. One is what people call “The Shining Question.” The Shining Question is, Who opens the door for Jack to get out of the fridge? And Ofelia is in an attic with a guard outside her door, and she draws the door with the magic chalk, and she shows up in the labyrinth. So, the only way she could have gone into the labyrinth is the magic chalk. And the flower is real at the end. The flower that blooms in the dead tree. And the reason I think it’s real is because—and this is why I'm in favor of the human factor in art—I think that art does transform the world. You know?

Think about it for a second. One of the goals, with all this movement, is to make you believe that art is vulgar. That art is nothing special, and anybody can do art. That is like me telling you that I'm faster at running than Usain Bolt but I “run” in my motorcycle. Well, that's not the same. That’s not the same at all.

Art is important, and they want you to believe it isn't. It's part of the idea of control. The goal is not to have artificial intelligence. The goal is to foster natural stupidity. The goal is to foster you not looking for answers, and to trust yourself entirely to an engine. Look at the way we are dipping our toes into these things. We are starting to ask the machine, Is this true? For now, there's a correlation between reality and what the answers of the machine are. For now. But soon, we won't even investigate further. We will be told it's true. And if the machine is in the hands of somebody who should not be trusted, then your reality has been completely and utterly fucked. Because your intelligence ends at the question. You don't seek the answer. It's given to you.

Q: You recently mentioned that AI creates 'semi-compelling screensavers' and that you'd 'rather die' than use it. As a filmmaker who relies heavily on practical effects and creature design, what do you think is the biggest thing lost when a computer generates an image instead of a human hand?

GDT:

The three quarters of the process that gave you the chance to think of the idea that people don't think about without that process. Meaning, AI can get you to the middle really fast, but there's a dialectic with the process that gets you to that top 10%. I'll give you an example with the Pale Man.

We sculpted it as an old man, with a face. And then I said, Let's take out the face. This happened because I saw a photo of a manta ray and the poster for Don Coscarelli’s Phantasm. That combination, which happened at two different times during a week or a month, are not permutations that are chemically part of an equation. They are alchemy. And then I said, Take out the face, and then I said, Let's put the eyes on the hands. This triangulation happens because I spent a month or two months living with the idea of this creature. And it's not linear.

AI is like a super-fast engine that makes semi-sentient permutations of things that are already done. Creation is things that have never been done. Coming to exist.

And the second thing is the loss of the apprenticeship that one has as an artist. You're never a master; you're always an apprentice. This is a kinship I have with, for example, Chris Nolan. When he showed me The Odyssey, there’s a scene when Matt Damon is floating in the stormy ocean and I asked him—because we were talking about practical effects, and how great it is and that we both always use a maquette or a model—and I asked him, How did you do it? He said, “We put him in a storm in the ocean.”

And you're gonna find that 30% of a great image occurs accidentally. You know, either a drop of water hits the lens, or the camera shakes. I remember when in 1993, '94, Jim…

#Sketches of Liberalio 💜 #NIKKE #fanart

PASSIONATE LIBERALIO
A quick line sketch of Liberalio, a character from "Goddess of Victory: NIKKE" Two views of a shapely and quiet-natured villainess(?!) in the game. She has an appearance based around a jellyfish, with frilly and overlong sleeves, but a tiny leotarde and hair done in a fancy twintailed style. She looks with hazy eyes and a coy expression.

Another quick sketch of Liberalio, giving the viewer an approving glance. Her shoulders, chest and waist are well pronounced, while her face is rounder & cuter in contrast. Drawn in purple, this waist high bust deserves a fuller -- and full body -- illustration. Stay tuned!
