El Niño cycles push warming up above the trend line which could pull a tipping point forward in time. Their effects seem to ride on until the next cycle. I also worry about the oceans’ and forests’ ability to continue absorbing CO2 at the historic rate.

Here is my latest estimate of where both years will end up compared to global temperatures since 1850.

Overnight temperatures likely above average for most of Australia.
