a not insignificant amount of gatekeeping of transmasculine healthcare is on the basis of keeping perceived "girls" sexually appealing to these same people (see the "irreversible damage" rhetoric, the amount of fearmongering specifically revolving around T and mastectomies on ~healthy breasts, etc)

Following along @mzakharuk.bsky.social's reread of @juliaserano.bsky.social's "Whipping Girl". Barely any cis people understand the rampant rape culture inherent to the medical gatekeeping of trans healthcare. These "professionals" know the power they hold over trans people and often abuse it.

> In the 1970s, Suzanne J. Kessler and Wendy McKenna came across several instances in which gatekeepers were rather blatant about this practice: “A clinician during a panel session on transsexualism at the 1974 meeting of the American Psychological Association said that he was more convinced of the femaleness of a male-to-female transsexual if she was particularly beautiful and was capable of evoking in him those feelings that beautiful women generally do. Another clinician told us that he uses his own sexual interest as a criterion for deciding whether a transsexual is really the gender she/he claims.”

Some of you have forgotten that only three years ago you were perfectly capable of writing an essay, writing a eulogy, telling a bedtime story to a child, and it should worry you that powerful companies have convinced us we can’t do things we’ve been doing for 5,000 years.
