Building in NL's deepest polder (Zuidplaspolder) is a risky gamble. At almost 7 m below sea level, brackish groundwater is seeping up. Building on this weak peat soil requires lowering water levels, causing the land to sink. Houses stay up on piles, but streets, gardens and pipes simply sink away.

In case anyone is still under the illusion that there is any coordinated planning for new transport infrastructure around Cambridge. It has been clear for several years that @greatercambs.bsky.social couldn't organise a drinks party in a brewery.

Glaciologist @matthias-huss.bsky.social shows that the centre of the Great Aletsch glacier in Switzerland (the biggest in the Alps) lost 6 meters(!) of thickness just this summer. "No words...", he adds on LinkedIn.
