Just scored a very unique piece for my calcite collection via auction - a spruce twig encased in calcite, from the sinter outcrop in Karlovy Vary Thermal Springs, Czech Republic. Given the old labels, its at least decades old. Been collecting calcite for years and never saw anything like it.🤩

This week's firestorm around MRM kicked off when it became apparent they were trying to grab the rights to cover art by the beloved and excellent artist John Picacio. It's important to stipulate that John is *already* super generous with his rights! Many other artists who do zine covers are, too.

But even when fans demand I make prints upon book release, I don’t do it @ that time. Why? Because I want the author and publisher to make $$$$$. But those art rights remain mine.
Scott Edelman generously documented his struggle with MRM over rights grabs here. I recommend giving it a read. Scott is not alone. A lot of authors have basically sworn off Asimov's, Analog, and F&SF after all this persistent garbage.

Two men in civilian clothes run up to a car with guns drawn. One second later, one man begins smashing the butt of his gun into the driver’s side window. The driver appears to panic and hit the gas.
