Really enjoying THE DRAGON HAS SOME COMPLAINTS by John Wiswell. Barely fifty pages in and the characters are already real, with lots of hints of dire traumatic revelations to come, all of it wrapped in a three-headed dragon who needs a hug.
On the treadmill this morning, I started the audiobook of The Dragon Has Some Complaints by @wiswell.bsky.social , and it is an utter DELIGHT.

The book begins as anecdote with one (3) character’s immediate POV, and ends as epic after several key moments of eye-watering expansion. Best of all, you never actually lose the characters who made you care about the story in the first place. Thank you, John.
Here to recommend THE DRAGON HAS SOME COMPLAINTS by @wiswell.bsky.social which I can best describe with the term “leaping scale.” This describes a Chinese landscape painting whose scale changes from foreground to middle to background, leaping orders of magnitude rather than in a steady gradient:
One of my favorite things about this field is how much information gets shared. Once social media took off, authors were comparing writing practices, sharing tips, talking about contracts. I got pointed to Duotrope and Writer Beware. So many writers want to help each other. It's awesome.

There is no industry or craft in the world which is so comprehensively written about, studied, and discussed as fiction writing, and every author I know welcomes new writers who are serious about giving it a go.
