Come for the demonstration of MPAS’s utility toward future NOAA operational modeling systems, stay for the 👀🍫 of a five-day radar loop from a global storm-scale MPAS forecast with HRRR/RRFS physics! I’m kicking off Wednesday’s talks at the #AMSMadisonSummit - hope to see you in the morning!

I study high-impact weather, help develop high-resolution models to improve weather forecasts, and mentor scientists. Constantly striving to help those around me flourish. My views expressed here are mine alone.

These clips are out of context for me so maybe it’s not as curious as it seems from the few I’ve seen. Yes. Work with real people. Yes, it’s all being used in very different ways than we thought. All of it. No one knows what any of it is “supposed” to mean/say/do. So, start early and often.
Hello again to a great city on a Great Lake. A couple of years away just reinforces that Milwaukee’s parks rock hard and every city would do well to emulate them.
Shouting into the ether here, but am back to again tap down the 90°F dew point talk over Iowa earlier this week. Lots going on here with this plot, but it isn't corn, it is just bad data. Don't overthink it.
I am too old to tap down the 90/90 talk. Please, get out your slide rule and compute how much water that is, even assuming a very shallow mixed layer above a corn field. Even if 90/90 was right for a corn field, this is way outside of the perf range of the sensor w/ 10 mile viz ob, case closed...
Open and informal question to the Bluesky #weather and #meteorology community: if you regularly use the RAP, HRRR, or now RRFS to inform decisions, would you mind sharing how? I’m interested in learning about your use cases: what are they and who or what do they support? (1/3)
The most beautiful sport. I dare say this is the golden age of cycling, with so many elite talents peaking at the same time, creating spectacles such as this.
The greatest finish on the Champs-Élysées ever!
I have empathy for them, but fundamentally you're agreeing with people who think my kid is a mistake, and no one here is a mistake

Using AIFS-DOP, ECMWF scientists have produced a prototype global reanalysis using Earth system observations alone. The results point to the potential of observation-driven machine learning to complement future operational reanalysis production. Read more ➡️ www.ecmwf.int/en/about/med...

What a run. The Giannis Antetokounmpo era in Milwaukee is over. Which is weird to say. I was fortunate to be there at the beginning, and now the end. Had a lot of interesting times in-between. 🧵Here some of my favorites. THE origin story: onmilwaukee.com/articles/gia...
NBA provides an escape for Bucks rookie Giannis Antetokounmpo
Signing an NBA contract didn't necessarily change the life of Milwaukee Bucks rookie Giannis Antetokounmpo, as he already had a professional deal in place in Europe. But what it did was take the teena...

I took my bike ride to work past all of the Giannis Antetokounmpo murals. I don’t know what happens to them next, but the civic pride they inspired was palpable.
Hi everyone! We recently decided to re-open the AMS WAF/NWP Student Travel Award applications to award the remaining two grants we have left for supporting travel to the 2026 AMS Joint Summit (with increased award amounts). Please share far and wide, and get application materials to us by July 6!
My bosses asked me to reflect on what it was like covering Giannis Antetokounmpo for the last decade in Milwaukee. From his early years to two MVPs to an NBA Finals MVP, here is what I've seen and learned from my front-row seat. At @TheAthletic: Original post
I covered Giannis Antetokounmpo’s legendary run in Milwaukee. Here’s what I observed
From how he embraced the city to how he insists on speaking for himself, Giannis brought "cool" back to the Bucks.

He brought joy to Milwaukee and the entire state of Wisconsin for over a decade. We got to watch him grow up, as a player and as a person - son, father, and husband. He was Milwaukee epitomized. Thank you, Giannis, for everything.
