Addiction by Design was published all the way back in 2012 and I think it’s the best (and absolutely devastating) book about the mechanics and economics of the predatory gaming industry It wasn’t even about video games, but you could map it to our sphere almost 1-to-1
Jesse Boo-rascia 👻@jesseguarascia.com · yesterdayWhile a lot of the high level concepts regarding manipulation and engagement tinkering are likely true, they've also ALWAYS been true and we've known it for decades because very smart people did the research and studied this shit
OCTOBER 12TH BABY Happy birthday to Pokémon X & Y, and with it, the most powerful NPC ever made
When discussing media franchises and stuff like lore-hunting, I think more people should consult Eiji Otsuka's Theory of Narrative Consumption. This was written in 1989, and it *still* remains the single-best breakdown of the practices I see right now in communities like Deadlock.

ace combat 8 dares to ask the question "what if video games were good and had good stories, music, and gameplay... simultaneously?" most people didn't think it was possible to do this, because it had never been done before, at least not to this level.

Ok I’m on Mission 21 (Solitaire) of ACE COMBAT 5: THE UNSUNG WAR and I can say with 100% confidence that WINGS OF THEVE is everything they wanted to do in 5 but couldn’t due to technical and budgetary restraints. Every newcomer owes it to themselves to check it out.
