SO excited to feature this new @nickreesgardner.bsky.social on Short Story, Long today. It's my fave story I've read in a bit. "I’ve been working twelves since I finished clinicals and was hired full time, but my shift at MedMark’s dragged on over fifteen hours when the snakebite victims come in."

How I support myself as a writer is by not supporting myself as a writer and having an entirely different job and pretending this is a fun adventure I get to go on to make friends
Really excited to see this one out in the world today, with such a great home at @doricliterary.bsky.social. Wrote the first draft of this a few years ago. Still feels like it’s one of the best stories I’ve written.

Among the worst things about the steady stream of AI scam book emails is that if your book was on a small press, or didn't land the way you were hoping, this scammy bullshit is the most positive and probably the only thing you've heard about that book in years. This one is about Howard and Charles.
I don't believe in God, but I might try to change my perspective in these moments. Not 'I can use this' but 'I understand better.' Dolly wouldn't say it but I'm sure she thought of her work too. A real writer writes to make people feel less alone across time & space. She was the real thing.
putting a gang of profoundly ignorant and incurious mean and despotic bigoted dipshits in charge seems to not be working, yet again, hmmm what could be wrong with the formula
Somehow we are in a shooting war with Iran and a trade war with Canada and we are losing both and international security and international political economy scholars are all at a loss because this is NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN
Writer friends: what advice would you give MFA students about literary magazines (finding good fits, what to do and not do, benefits of engaging w this community, whatever else you've got)? I'm doing this at Chatham this week, and I have my ideas/practices, would love to hear yours. Thanks!

Wrote another short story today, the second this week, after maybe a year of not working on stories at all. Both written on trains, both about scary clowns. Was talking to @aaronburch.bsky.social at Writer Camp about how I missed having a weird writing project and maaaaaybe I just found it 🤡.
