We all have different concepts of what “freedom” looks like, but increasingly I think my own ideal of freedom is one where I can spend my time thinking about the things I want to think about

Channeling my mother while showing the cats the scene in Meet the Parents where Jinx uses the toilet: "Do you think that cat's smarter than you? That cat's not any smarter than you."

Frank Conroy, in workshops, used to say the reader is climbing a mountain (the story) and the writer puts things (details, backstory, etc) in their backpack that will prove useful later. At the top (end), if the reader realizes you've made them carry heavy stuff they didn't need, they'll be pissed

A persistent problem in my life is that my face/facial hair always seem to want me to have a goatee, but it's hard to have a goatee and not look like a cop or a guy who gets mad on podcasts

Kinda pissed my guidance counselors never told me about the career plan where you work in finance for a few years, marry someone with lots of generational wealth, and by 50 you’ve left “the rat race” to open an art gallery with a second outpost (mostly for tax purposes) in Santorini
