Rifleman Sheldon Steel from Bramley died fighting alongside the US in Afghanistan. He was 20. That’s not avoiding the frontline - that’s putting everything on the line in the fight for freedom. Following these remarks from the US President, I’m thinking of Rifleman Steel’s family and friends.
Bramley Baths in Leeds has gone a step beyond community-led - it's now community-owned. 🏊♂️ That's a community asset in community hands - securing a long-term future as a place Bramley residents can meet, swim and socialise. Councillor @tomhinchcliffe.bsky.social explains. youtu.be/h6qIiRDUoCQ

NEW: The government has launched a new national road maintenance rating system. It’s great that Leeds has one of the highest ratings. There’s more to do. I report potholes in our community most weeks and have regular meetings with the Highways team to ensure repairs are done.
🌞 Great to be in Bramley Park for Breeze in the Park! Hundreds of local residents and families are enjoying the sun, stalls, games and inflatables. We were delighted to fund this again with our Leeds City Council Outer West Community Committee funding.
Tory cuts to our local budgets over the last 14 years have decimated SEND provision. They want us to forget what got us into this mess. At Full Council, I spoke about West SILC’s fantastic post-16 provision and this Labour government's recent investments in SEND provision.

🎶 Great to be in Bramley Park enjoying the music! We were delighted to fund this and hope residents enjoyed the afternoon. Many thanks to Tutti Leeds Community Concert Band for another brilliant performance!
⛪️ Delighted to catch up with local residents at St Thomas Church, Stanningley tea party this afternoon! It’s great to see the church going from strength to strength with Rev Lottie.
🌹 Grateful to the committed Labour activists who joined us on the Upper Reach Estate this morning to speak to residents about the issues that matter most to them. We picked up several issues which we will be following up this week. Thank you to all residents who gave us their time this morning.
Our first Leeds City Council Outer West Community Committee meeting of the year is Monday 30th June from 1pm at Farnley Hall. It would be great to see residents there as we take decisions on funding applications for community projects, as well as decide on our local priorities for the upcoming year.
🥵 I haven’t done a parkrun for years but I came out of retirement for the 10th anniversary of Bramley Parkrun this morning. 🏃🏻♂️ A really welcoming group of volunteers, runners and residents. Thank you to everyone who makes Bramley healthier and happier.
Following ours and local residents' representations to West Yorkshire Police, a Section 61 has now been agreed and the Travellers will be moved on from Bramley Falls sports pitches today. Our next steps will be to review the damage on the site, arrange repairs and look into preventative measures.
NEW: This Labour Government is extending free school meals to 500,000 more children. Any child whose parents receive Universal Credit will be able to get free school meals. This change will benefit many in Bramley, Stanningley and Rodley, saving families around £500 a year.
‼️ APPOINTMENTS ‼️ Following the meeting of Full Council this evening, I’m delighted to have been appointed as Chair of the Outer West Community Committee. The new Community Committee includes Bramley & Stanningley, Farnley & Wortley, Calverley & Farsley, and Pudsey. More 👇

🇬🇧 A privilege to lay a wreath at the VE Day service in Leeds. As the Armed Forces Champions for Leeds City Council, we’re grateful to everyone who came together across the city to mark this important day.
🇬🇧 A pleasure to visit Ghyll Royd Care Home for their VE Day celebrations. It was great to meet residents, many of whom have served our country and put their lives on the line for our freedom. Thank you to local Labour Councillors Eleanor, Sonia and Oliver for inviting me.
Under the Tories, military homes fell into disrepair. Labour is setting new standards, with better move-in conditions, more reliable repairs, and a named housing officer for every family.
🌞 Out on the Calverleys with Rachel Reeves and Labour activists speaking with local residents about the issues that matter to them. Thank you to residents for speaking with us and giving us a warm welcome.
🚮 Thank you to local residents and volunteers who joined us on the Broadleas yesterday for our community litter pick. So grateful to everyone who gave up their time to make our streets cleaner and tidier. Thanks to Bramley Womble and Cllr Kevin Ritchie for organising!
🏫 Important discussion on the future and financial situation of West 11 at yesterday evening’s meeting of the West SILC board of governors. More from me 👇
Our community shouldn’t have to put up with rising crime or antisocial behaviour. That’s why Labour’s Crime and Policing Bill will give police and communities power to take back our streets and tackle serious violence. More 👇
NEW: Today, the Labour government announces the first schools that will become the first to offer a new free breakfast club. I'm pleased that Bramley St. Peter's Primary School will benefit from this initial rollout. This will ensure children are fed and parents can drop them off in time for work.
☕️ I’m at Bramley Library for my advice surgery until 11am. If you believe I can help, please come and see me. Alternatively you can always email me - tom.hinchcliffe@leeds.gov.uk
OWN GOAL: Tory leader, Kemi Badenoch has refused to support the government on introducing a football regulator. As #LUFC fans, we know how important it is to prevent inappropriate owners taking charge of clubs for financial profit with no interest in improving the club.
Today, my thoughts are with the Jewish Community in Leeds and across the UK. 80 years since Auschwitz was liberated, we remember the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust and all victims of the Nazis. We must stamp out antisemitism wherever it rears its ugly head.
NEW: Labour MPs have just voted for an Armed Forces Commissioner - a direct point of contact, dedicated to improving service life for our armed forces personnel, veterans and their families. This Labour Government is prioritising those who risk everything in defence of our freedoms.
🧑🍳 Fantastic to visit Flourishing Families at Bramley St. Peter's School with our MP and Chancellor Rachel Reeves. 🥘 We spoke with families about the support they are receiving from this brilliant local organisation and was shown a Family Cookery Club in action.
👨🚒 At the meeting of the West Yorkshire Fire Authority People and Culture Committee this morning, I praised the work of Stanningley Fire Station in tackling the bin arson in Bramley Park. Delighted that fire fighters attended Bramley parkrun to raise awareness of these issues.
